"Kyros?"

I was running my fingers over my hair, not sparing Gordon a glance as Quinn started up the SUV. "What?"

"Are we attacking hunters or going on a date?"

I growled warningly. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"You look like a cross between James Bond and...I don't know."

I took a cleansing breath.  "You are imagining things. You're in all black too."

"We all are, but we're not grooming ourselves--" Gordon saw my warning look, and bowed his head. "I'm sorry, Alpha, I meant no disrespect."

Suddenly there was a knock on the window. We all looked up.

"Father?" I couldn't believe it

"Father?" I couldn't believe it. He was dressed and ready to go.

"Out, Kyros," he growled. "You will coming with me in my car."

"Father, you don't have to--" I saw that look in his eyes, the one that put fear in me as a child, the one that told me he meant business now.  Angry and somewhat humiliated, I averted my eyes and slid out of the car. "This could be dangerous--"

"Thank you for your concern," he nodded, opening the passenger's seat door. "You may drive."

I went around the front of the car and slid in. I remained silent. He had something to say, that's for sure. I started the car.

"You look awfully dapper for hunting, son."

I exhaled heavily. "Our prey is in a luxury high rise in downtown Chicago. FIgured I'd look the part."

"Hmm."

I followed Gordon's SUV. "Why are you coming, Father?"

"Because he will be there."

"John Martin."

"Yes," he nodded. "yes, I have unfinished business with him."

"Father--"

"You take care of that offspring," he growled.

"The last time you fought him--" I stopped at the sound of my father's growl. The man went feral, from what I heard. It was the first time that anyone knew of that a half breed defeated a full breed.  That was the one time we found Leilani's location. I had actually tracked her. That bothered my dad for a time, because no one seemed to pick up the scent. We battled in the woods that night, and Dad did not come out well. I was so close to figuring out which camper she was in, but I heard his cry of pain and turned around.  "You're not fully recovered, and it's been years."

"I am enough for this."

I was silent. Dad has taken a bullet made of silver dipped in wolfsbane and mistletoe. Truthfully, if he wasn't an alpha, he would have died. It took the whole pack to help save him--blood, magic, and anything we could figure out. We realized that John Martin's  human wife probably loaded the gun, saving her husband from certain harm. Well, she wasn't here anymore, so there was a good chance that these things wouldn't be a problem.

We weren't far. We were on the Gold Coast of Chicago, the area where some of the wealthiest lived in the city. Our contacts had proved useful, but I couldn't recall paying so much for information.

"We will wipe this family out, once and for all," Father said. "Sire to sire, offspring to offspring. Two will die tonight, and anyone who gets in our way."

I didn't answer. I didn't tell him I had a picture of her in my jacket. I didn't tell him that she smelled of honey all the time. I didn't tell him that the closer I got to her, the worse these intense feelings became. He told me it was my innate hatred for non-pure blood, but I wasn't sure. He was beyond talking to, reasoning with, I knew that much.  I focused on the road, feeling uncomfortable, trying not to know why though deep down I was starting to.
