Kyros left me on the terrace for fresh air after our talk, off to meetings. He sensed that I needed a little time alone. The idea of being Kyros's mate was something I had thought about, but never said aloud, and to hear him say it was a bit surreal. We were sworn enemies...weren't we?
It's your choice.
Dad must have known that Kyros was my mate. Somehow our fathers figured it out. Payton Kincaid must have been furious since he believed in full breed rule. Was Payton so hateful that he would have killed me if he had the chance-to stop fate? In one selfless action, Dad wiped out the previous generation, including himself, to let fate play a hand and allow us choices...
The tears surprised me. The beautiful landscape scene looked like it was under water, like in a snowglobe. So many feelings just stirring up in me, and trying to grab one is like trying to grab air.
"Are you alright?"
I looked over to see a woman holding a tray with a tea set and a box of tissues. She was really beautiful. "Yes, thank you."
"Would you care for tea?" she asked. "Alpha says you like milk and honey?"
I laughed softly. "Yes, that's true, thank you."
"The whole kitchen knows that," she said with a smile. "and about the food sent to the dungeons."
"Yes, we are all eating well, and we're thankful."
She frowned. "Alpha is very generous...when he wants to be."
"Anyone can be generous when they want to be...uh..."
"Myra."
"Myra," I said with a smile. I noticed a bracelet on her wrist. It was beautiful. "That's a beautiful bracelet."
She gasped softly, pulling her sleeve over it.
"Oh, I meant nothing by it," I said softly, smiling. "From your boyfriend?"
Myra's smile faded. "He...well, it didn't work out..."
"Maybe you'll make up?" I asked. "It's a pretty bracelet."
"Time will tell," she shrugged.
"My mother used to say that." We both laughed, but I could tell she was sad. "Would you like to have tea with me?"
She frowned. "I can't."
I realized she must have been a servant. "Maybe when you get off work, we can hang out."
She blinked at that. "You mean that."
"Of course," I took her hand. "I'm--"
"His new paramour?" Myra guessed. "His new plaything?"
I frowned. No one really knew who I was. "No."
"No?" Myra laughed. "You have to know he will tire of you."
I didn't know what to say.
"Why?"
"He went through some trouble to find me, is all." I didn't want to say more.
"Trouble," she repeated. "Tea?"
"Thanks." I said. She poured the hot water in the cup and the smell of chamomile tea calmed me. "Oh, it already smells like heaven. Don't worry about the milk and honey, I'll do it. Thanks, I appreciate it."
"You're welcome." Myra bowed and left.
After she left, I sat alone, still looking at the countryside. I poured the milk and honey and stirred it, my thoughts drifting to Kyros. I couldn't help but smile. Everytime he kissed me I was lightheaded and weak, yet I wanted him as close as possible so I held on tight. It just seemed like the stars were aligning. I took a few sips of tea, and relaxed.
"Hey."
I turned to see Asa. "Hi, Asa," I smiled. "How was your run on the beach?"
"Great, as usual," Asa grinned. "For some reason, being on the beach brings me the most peace, like...my mate is there." He laughed softly. "We spent a lot of time there."
"Romantic," I chuckled.
"Oh, always," he smiled. "and you?"
"He said it."
"He told you how he feels?"
I felt a little sad at that. "He said that he believes the Goddess chose me to be his."
"That's--that's great!" He took my hand. "I can't imagine a better Luna, I honestly can't."
"But I'm not a full breed."
"Who would contest the Goddess's will, disprove it?" Asa asked. "I know you don't realize it, but you two are so much happier, so much more peaceful when you are together. I remember with my mate, we were so..."
Suddenly, I didn't feel well. I couldn't hear what Asa was saying. My stomach was beginning to cramp, my head was starting to spin. "Asa?"
He turned to look at me, and he did a double take. "Lani?" His eyes widened with panic. "Lani!"
I tried to get up, but fell, luckily in Asa's arms. I fought to stay awake, but I closed my eyes, and all went black.
