"I don't know any of them." Kyros murmured, shaking his head slightly. "They're going to attack--"
As if they heard the last the word he said, a few vampires became airborne, while others ran straight at us.
"I'm at nine!" he yelled to me.
"Three for me!" I shot one before it could descend. "Ten o'clock!"
He pointed his crossbow at twelve to gain a center and turned to ten, shooting and not taking the time to watch the vamp disintegrate. I had just shot one on the ground, when he looked up. "One up high!"
"Damn it!" I got him, but he was on his descent. A few seconds too late, and I would have had to stab him. He shot vampires on the ground with my gun. I opened my jacket and pulled out the mini boomerangs. With one click, the blades came out, and I threw them. They hit and sliced their targets. That got a look from Kyros. "Dad's invention."
The air was empty. There were no more aerial attacks. They were pounding the ground now, and truthfully there weren't many left. We finished them off with ease, and caught our breath, finishing the battle in silence. We'd begun talking in each other's heads and didn't even realize it.
"Now what?" I asked.
"We--" Suddenly we heard a helicopter. "That's--that's not ours. Damn!" He grabbed my hand, and pulled me around the rock, away from the treeline. What lay before us now was a very steep decline. "Just stay calm honey, just...stay..."
I watched in shock as Kyros began to change. I could already tell he wasn't going to be a wolf. He was bigger than that. His fangs emerged, and his hands enlarged, his claws extending as he growled. When he looked at me, I realized that his eyes hadn't really changed. I saw him so easily. "Kyros?"
He nodded. "Get...on."
I jumped on his back and we began sliding down the decline. He stopped, using all his strength to stop and turn toward the flying machine.
Oh, God, we were going to attack it!
Kyros gave me a look and I tightened my hold around his neck, giving the nod. He mustered all his strength, and leaped, catching the bottom rail of the chopper.
The passenger started shooting immediately.
"Kyros!" the pilot yelled. "Help!"
I saw a flicker of recognition in Kyros's eyes. and he swung over to the passenger's side. Just the passenger, babe.
I gasped, hearing his words in my head, but obeying. I climbed up Kyros's body and grabbed the hand with the pistol as he came out to shoot. I banged it against the side of the chopper, and shot the arm, the momentary shock allowing me to get a better hold and pull him over the side and drop him below. I climbed into the chopper and sat down next to this...wait, this was a--
"Relax!" he insisted loudly over the machinery as he brought the chopper up to where we left our gear. "I'm not the enemy!"
He is telling the truth. Something is wrong, though. His name is David.
"I'll explain after we land!" David pointed at where he knew Kyros was hanging on. "Tell him."
He said he'll explain--
This better be good.
I nodded.
When we were about to land, Kyros jumped off and headed for our gear. The chopper landed, and we got out.
Kyros walked toward us in pants and shoes, shrugging on a shirt. "What the hell is--"
"We are all in trouble, Kyros."
"Who were those newborns?" Kyros demanded.
"This is long to explain, so hold on!" David took a deep breath. "After your father died, mine did also, but under mysterious circumstances. He allowed me to marry a human, and she carries our child! It--"
"Caused a rift in your coven," Kyros finished, looking at me for a second. "Go on."
"Some wolves--uh, Charles and Liam--approached them and offered power and lands if they helped overthrow me. They tried to attack, but my wife and loyals got away. They kept me because they couldn't fly our chopper, but they do plan an attack somewhere. I've got to get to my wife!" He took a deep breath. "Kyros, your pack and my coven are in trouble!"
