I had no time to lose.

I sprinted over the bridges and began at the third island, working my way back. I took off my yellow rain hoodie and shivered, realizing that summer was really over, and threw it on branches near a tree to make it stand up overlooking the rapids that emptied into Horseshoe Falls. I stood, awed and frightened of it. There was no way I could survive a swim from here. I looked to see a wedding taking place at Cozy Corner which offered a stunning view, and a sigh escaped me. It was a beautiful place...that gave way to utter chaos if one wasn't ready.

Doubling back, I ran though brush off the road backward while trying to push it in the opposite direction to deter pursuers. Finally, I came upon the bridge to see one of Kyros's pack on it, walking across and looking around, trying to catch a scent in the air. I slid under it and waited on the shore of the rapids, hoping he'd pass by. A bunch of people were around, laughing and talking as tourists do, so when I heard a growled curse, I realized he may have lost my scent. I still had his. It was strong. I looked under the bridge to find beams I might be able to--

"Leilani."

I froze as I set eyes on a man over a foot taller than me.

"It's over, come on."

I backed away, and began my ascent to the top of the bridge.

"Gordon?" I saw a younger smaller guy on the other side, barring me from the second island.

"Coming!" The man from under the bridge said. "Look, Leilani, don't--"

With a growl and a cry, I charged the one in front of me, knocking the wind out of him with a low tackle. He caught my arm as I tried to roll away, and I poked his eye with my free one. I tried to dig my heel into his groin, but he saw that coming.

"Little bitch!" He caught my foot in his hand and I used it to push off of and dig my knee into his throat. He let go of my foot and I rolled to my feet, pulling out pepper spray to finish the deal. He howled in pain as I took off.

"STOP!"

The big one was on me. I crossed the bridge and jumped into the trees, taking off my hoodie and throwing it onto brush near the riverbank. I climbed from tree to tree with ease, and now in dark colors, would be harder to see.

Suddenly, I felt that feeling again...weak, aware. I hugged a tree, and waited.

"Gordon?" Kyros was breathing hard.

"She messed Quinn up bad," Gordon responded. "Back there. Max is tending him."

"That means--"

"Let's go back to the bridge--" Kyros stopped. "Wait."

"What?"

I froze, watching them.

Kyros took a deep breath through his nose. "Close...close by." He took another inhale with his eyes closed, and he turned his head. I sucked a breath as his eyes opened to meet mine, even though I was somewhat camouflaged by trees. "Hi, Honey." His smile was almost ear to ear. "Come on, now, game over--"

With a cry I jumped to another tree. I'd barely gotten footing before I jumped again.

"Whoa!" Kyros sounded impressed. Next thing I heard was very fast steps and then I felt branches I just jumped off of shake. I landed briefly and looked down. He was running but trying to leap with me to try to catch my foot!

"Leave me alone!"

"Can't!" He huffed. "Love to, but can't!"

I jumped higher. I had one shot at this. He was so busy concentrating on me that he forgot the bridge was close by. With a last heave, I landed on the road, and he...well...

"AH!" He landed next to the bridge, and had to scrape to not roll into the water below. I saw claws emerge from his hands as he made his way back level ground as I crossed with ease, having landed in the middle of it.

"You're crazy!" He roared after me. He didn't care who saw him or heard.

"Only when you're around!" I yelled back and took off running. I didn't look back, but could have sworn I heard him laugh. I made my way to my bike and took off for New York City.

I stood next to my car, thinking. She was something else.

"Go after her?"

I was almost startled by Gordon's voice. "How's Quinn?"

"He'll be alright." Gordon shrugged. "Alpha?"

"I want her watched," I said. "Locate her and send reports to me."

"What?"

"She is reckless and wild when cornered, and that doesn't suit me," I told him. "I need her to calm down."

"But--"

"She is headed to New York, my territory, my backyard," I smiled. "Poor darling doesn't know that yet."

"So when--"

"Will I close in on her, close the net?" I finished. "In my time. It's my turn, my game now."
