"How long is this going to take?" I whine to Alex, sitting in the passenger's seat of the SUV.
"We've only been driving for half an hour, Vi", Alex laughs at me, "It takes two hours to get to the city."
"Didn't take two hours when your dad took us to town when we were 14."
"We went to a hardware store and a café! Every town has those. But in a town as small as that, they don't have a cinema as they wouldn't earn much money from it."
"Oh..." I trail off, realising that he makes perfect sense. "Well, it's still so far..."
"How long did you expect it to take?" He asks.
"I dunno," I answer, "Maybe like 20 minutes."
"You really have lived a sheltered life", he teases.
"I have not!", I argue, "At least, it's been just as sheltered as yours!"
"Sure, sure." He responds.
I decide to watch the world pass by through the window. It's really quite peculiar, riding in a car. The world should flash by so fast, but it seems to go so slowly, even though you are going over 100 kilometres an hour.
We pass by farms, these ones holding animals other than cows, especially sheep. Humans seem to have so many sheep farms, from my observations. But that could just be a coincidence. I don't get why you'd want lamb when you could have a big juicy steak, though...
The ride seems to go on for forever, to the point where it's rather soothing. It all just goes on and on and on forever, trees, paddocks, animals and fences and... I soon fall asleep, my head resting on the edge of the window
I'm sitting in a car, once again, not dissimilar to the one I was in before. Except, now I am in the back seat, shaking.
"Why is it so bouncy? And noisy? I don't like it." I hear my own voice comment.
"You're such a baby", the smaller Alex comments from beside me, "It's pretty cool. It's so fast."
"Faster than Daddy?"
"Probably." Alex says, then admits, "But your dad is very fast."
"I'm gonna be even faster," I tell him.
"Pff. As if", he replies.
"Vi. Vi. VI!" I feel a hand shaking my shoulder.
"What?" I snap, irritably.
"We're here, at the city." As Alex speaks, my eyes flicker open and I look out the window. Car park, how fascinating. Although, this many cars being in one place is quite impressive, in itself.
I open my door, careful not to slam it like I do at home. I shut it carefully, and Alex locks up the car with a simple press of a button. Human technology sure can be pretty amazing. I walk over to the edge of the car park and look down.
"Whoa, we're so high up!" I exclaim, seeing that we are far above the road.
Alex joins me, unfazed by the height, "Yeah, this is how they have all the cars not taking up too much space."
"That makes sense." I walk over to the elevator and press the down button on it. I only know how to work it since at home we have elevators in some buildings so that those who were injured in battle can still get around.
The doors open shortly, and both Alex and I step into the elevator. I hurriedly push the ground floor button, and the doors close.
"I hate these damn things." Alex mutters under his breath.
