Ant and Dec and their friends huddled around the campfire, their torches illuminating their faces. It was dark, and the only sounds that could be heard were the occasional chirping of crickets and the crackling of the fire.
It was late, and the teenagers were all supposed to be in bed. Instead, they had snuck out to have a good time together, without the adults of the camp around.
"So everybody," Simon, the eldest of the group said, "I know we've all been friends and we've known each other for ages, but I still feel we all have our little interesting secrets. So, we're going to get to know each other a little bit more and play truth or dare!"
Everyone started chatting excitedly, and Simon shushed them, afraid of getting caught. He produced a bottle, and spun it. When it stopped, eyes landed on the person it pointed to; David.
Stephen laughed out in glee.
"David, truth or dare?" He asked. David hesitated.
"What's wrong? Are you chicken?" Amanda poked playfully, trying to get him to choose dare.
"No, I'm not! I choose dare." He said, shooting a look at Amanda, who glared at him back.
"Dare...okayy... I can't think of any good ones." Stephen said.
"Ask Ant," Simon suggested helpfully, "He's fun."
"Ant!" He called. Both Ant and Dec looked over at them. "Come here, both of you, we need your help for a dare."
They both walked over to the fire and everyone moved up to make space for them.
"So, who's the dare for?" Dec asked.
"David," everyone replied.
"Okay," Ant said, smirking, "I dare you to call your mam and tell her that you can't find a girlfriend."
Ant's dare was followed up by snorts, exclamations and laughter from the group. He was given a dagger from David, who reluctantly pulled out his phone and called his mum. He tried to ignore the constant snickers from his friends and resisted the urge to punch them all in the faces.
By the time he had hung up, everyone was rolling around the floor in tears, desperately tryimg to smother the sound of their laughter before they were heard. David was the only one who wasn't amused, and sat on the log with his arms and legs crossed. After a while, Simon shushed everyone and calmed them down.
"Oh my god, David I'm sorry, but that was too funny." He chuckled. "Ant, you're a genius!"
Ant smiled widely. "I know!"
"Now, who's next?" Stephen spun the bottle, and the top pointed straight at Ant, who laughed nervously.
"Umm, I don't really wanna choose..."
"NO!!" David pounced on him. "You made me do a dare, now you need to do one too. Or are you chicken?"
"Yes I am chicken David," Ant retorted. He huffed, "Fine. I'll do truth. Don't give me a bad one though."
"Yeah, whatever. So Ant, have you ever had a girlfriend?"
Everyone looked at Ant expectantly.
"Or a boyfriend," David added in quickly, causing everyone to burst out laughing.
"Ha ha ha," Ant laughed. "Ok, I'll be honest, I haven't."
"Had what? A boyfriend?"
"No!" Ant punched David on the arm.
Dec, who had been silent the whole time, looked on in surprise.
"How?" He found himself blurting out.
"How what?" Ant questioned.
"How have you never had a girlfriend?"
"I dunno," Ant shrugged, embarrassed. "Never asked, never been asked."
Dec looked away. "But you're so beautiful," He whispered under his breath.
Ant's sharp ears heard the whisper, but he pretended not to hear and didn't react. For the rest of the night, while everyone laughed and joked together, he sat there silently thinking to himself. All he could hear was the thudding of his heart in his ears as the same words ran through his mind over and over;
He feels the same way
