Beach Party
You would think with Mason being home that I'd be having the time of my life at their party, but I find myself sitting alone by the waters edge, sipping on a bottle of Jack, listening to the party go on behind me and the waves roll in.
I guess the idea of partying with so many guys that I don't know has me a little squeamish. My rapist could very well be at this party and then again, he could be long gone either way I'm not really feeling up to partying with a bunch of strangers right now, maybe after the booze starts kicking in.
"What are you doing all the way over here all by yourself?"
I turn and see Levi, "Just enjoying the view," I chuckle. The view before me is a few feet of black water, creating a greyish foam and a lot of nothingness. It would be easy to imagine that you're looking at the edge of the world at the ocean after dark because it just cuts off into a wall of blackness when the stars are covered by the clouds.
Levi settles down beside me offering me a beer. I hold my bottle up, showing him that I have a drink and let my bottle settle back into the sand beside me. "So, let me guess, a bunch of sweaty half naked Marines with bodies like Greek Gods aren't your thing?"
I can't help but chuckle at his accurate description of Mason's friends. "They're cool, I'm just shy around people sometimes," I admit.
"As I recall you never had that problem before. In fact, you were the girl that all other girls wanted to be, and all of the guys wished they could have."
"That girl died oh about...." I pause, pretending to think. "About ten years ago.
"Who broke your heart? I'll break them," He shoves me playfully with his shoulder.

Alex's point of view
Hey Alex, I hear Missy yell, making me want to turn and run the other way, and I would have, if I didn't promise my brother I'd be here. She rushes up to me throwing her arms around my neck. I pat her on the back in a friendly manner before she steps away.
"Your brother is such a nice guy."
"Good, then why don't you go hang all over him," I shoot back at her making her step away from me with a frown.
"You're an ass, Alex," she pouts and stomps away.
Mission accomplished, I think as I trudge closer to the party.
"Hey little brother," Mason throws his arm over my shoulder, steering me toward a kegger where he fills up a solo cup before handing it to me. "What took you so long man, I thought you weren't going to show?"
"I had to run to the main land to pick up some paperwork on a case I'm working on and then I had to run down a lead." I explain just wanting to end this conversation.
"Your girl is over there," He points further down the beach to where Trina is sitting with some guy. "Levi is keeping her company. Now I'm not you but if I were I'd go trade him spots."
"You're right, you aren't me. She's my ex Mason, not my current. That was a very long time ago," I remind him before taking a sip of my beer, watching Trina and Levi over the lip of my cup.
"I call bullshit," Mason argues. "A little birdy told me that you and Bash were in an altercation a few nights ago, over her. Care to elaborate?"
I let out a sigh, "Bash said something he shouldn't, and I took care of it, end of story."
"Well here's what I heard," Mason says pausing long enough for me to look at him. "I heard some sick SOB went and hurt our girl and that's why she left......" He pauses again waiting for me to respond and when I don't he steps closer, so close that I can smell the beer on his breath as he speaks in my ear, words only meant for me. With a snarl on his lips that I can barely see out of the corner of my eye he says, "If that aint the case you're working you aren't gonna like me boy."
