"He WHAT?!" Seo Jangmi, your best friend and police partner, exclaimed, spilling her tea across the floor.
"It's fine! He's not going to suddenly burst in through our doors and shoot us... Right?" You tried to joke, but she simply stared at you like she had seen a ghost.
"That's exactly what he'll do. You can't stay at your place, you know that right? You'll stay with me from now on."
"I... Okay, yeah, makes sense." You sighed, realising this was very much real. "But we can't tell the authorities, or they'll shut us out of the case, and then I am really left for prey."
Jangmi frowned but nodded, "We'll take him down together." As you were about to reply, there was a knock on your office door, and soon thereafter Eunkwang came in, looking like he just set fire to a store, guilty, that is.
"He... Seo-jang escaped. He's gone. Poof." Eunkwang looked literally anywhere else than on the two detectives in front of him.
"What do you mean Poof? Didn't we have people guarding him?" You exclaimed, knowing the only witness to now be gone.
"He jumped out of the toilet window."
"You're kidding me." Jangmi sighed.
"He couldn't have gotten far, get police out to each train station and airport. Send out pictures and headhunt him. Now." You ordered Eunkwang, then grabbed your coat. "Let's go Mimi." You called her by an old nickname, one which had come up years ago when you first got to know each other. The two of you left the building, which was rattling with police rushing out to catch a fugitive. Getting into the car you began driving.
"Where to?" Jangmi asked, putting her hair in a tail.
"IF he jumped out of the toilet window, he must have left trails. We'll follow them." You nodded, soon thereafter pulling up next to the hospital. The two of you put on the black tinted glasses and gloves, then connected them to each other, being able to send over things you had interacted with to one another. You brought up a map of the hospital and determined which toilet he had escaped from then headed over to where the window lead out from. As you approached, you could easily spot the traces.
"Who thought blood traces would actually make me happy?" Jangmi muttered, realising that the job to find Seo-jang would suddenly be a lot easier. The two set off, following the traces of blood. It lead across the parking lot and into an industrial area. Getting an odd gut feeling of danger, they both pulled out their guns and walked carefully ahead, better be safe than sorry. As they took around a corner, a man jumped out with a knife, slicing at Jangmi's arm. You threw up your gun and pointed it at him, shouting loud and clear.
"Halt. Police. Halt or I will shoot."
The words were enough as the man dropped the knife and threw up his hands.
"Please, they'll kill me."
Jangmi ignored the cut on her arm and lowered her gun. "We'll protect you, but you need to cooperate."
"Don't bring me in, they'll kill me from the inside."
"We'll consider it if you answer some questions for us first." Jangmi crossed her arms, studying the man carefully. He nodded, replying that he'll answer anything as long as they allowed him to leave the town. The situation was calm, and he sat down on a box, looking like a broken man.
"They're seven leading the mafia. Jooheon is the leader. Minhyuk and Shownu are ex-military, an agent and a medic. Kihyun and Changkyun each run the mafia part which are in China and Japan. Wonho worked his way up after the rival mafia killed his siblings and girlfriend, getting revenge, then stayed. He's the economic's advisor. Hyungwon often takes care of bribery to officials and gets those underneath them out of trouble with the authority." Seo-jang explained, looking more and more nervous as time went on.
"Where do they have their base?" You asked, pressuring him for more information.
"No one knows their actual base, but they have drug factories somewhere near Goyang."
Jangmi arched an eyebrow at you, both thinking that this was the best lead you've had on the mafia for years.
"Why are you telling us this?" Jangmi narrowed her eyes, not believing him.
"So you can let me leave this city! They'll kill me otherwise." He exclaimed. "Listen, I need to leave. Please. I've told you good things, right?"
You took a second to think, then made up your mind. You would let him go, but inform police outside of the city and have them catch him, then ensure he'd be taken into custody somewhere else than in the city. There were still things that needed to be sorted out, but if it meant keeping him alive, that could be done in a different station. Agreeing with his words, you and Jangmi got him into your car and drove him to a bus station on the outskirts of the city. On the way home, you sighed, looking over at Jangmi who drove.
"We should tell the police about what we learned."
"We should, and once we raid the area, Jooheon will know we're not playing games." Jangmi looked over at you with a serious expression, yet something sly hid beneath it.
