Silence.
Not even a single word uttered .
I didn't want to come here but a part of my heart still is so attached to this place. That I cannot reject my mother.
So here I am sitting here, staring and poking at my now cold food in front of me.
And peeking at my watch on my right wrist just to see how long do I have to sit here.
Glancing at my parents a few times. They didn't say anything just a hello and how are things going. Just a formality, nothing else.
What was I even expecting?
That they will start caring or miss me after a few days. But nowadays all my opinions proves to be nonsense and wrong.
I finally decided to break the silence
"Um.. I-I decided to work at a lib-library" Why am I even telling them that, but I don't have anything to say to them too.
"But you already work at the coffee shop and we have enough money so why are you even looking for jobs?" It was my mother who spoke but still no response from my dad.
"I-I just wanted it for my extra expenses"
Lie.
I was just doing that because I want to engage myself in something, college, then coffee shop. Plus I love libraries so why not.
"Ok but..." My mother started to only my father standing and walking to his room.
That is what happens every time he just seems so lost and doesn't know anything going around him, I don't even remember the last time we had a proper conversation.
"Sorry hun.. he is just pretty stressed out because of an important case he is handling." My tries to make up for his behaviour.
I just shook my head to say that it's alright and gave her a tight lipped smile. I don't hate my mother I know she cares for me, but it's just that I can't get over the fact that now we are not the same family as we were before. Everyone knew we were breaking apart but still she did nothing about it. Nothing.
No problem is that big that love cannot fix it. Everything has a solution.
I helped my mom wash the dishes and clean up a bit.
"You should stay." She said turning to face me for a second then back to doing the dishes.
"N-no I have some important assignments that I have to submit on Monday so I cannot stay." I nervously washed the plates without glancing in her direction.
She hummed understandingly but her voice and posture showed.... disappointment.
While watching her I noticed how weak she has gotten. It's like she is not well and just weak. Her tall structure is leaning now, her hands getting wrinkly. Her face looks older then her real age.
"Mum are you okay?" I asked. Worry clearly visible in my voice.
She turned her whole body this time in my direction and gave me the most motherly smile. The one I was used to as a kid "I am okay my dear."
Just like that, like every time she hides her pain and feelings.
A/N: So finally a chapter with her family. I think it's time to finally move the story forward and introduce more characters.
