Chapter 5: i wont let that happen

**Lapis's POV**

I woke up, feeling exhausted and unusually warm. I opened my eyes to see melted ice packs around me, and Peridot laying beside me. I noticed I was spooning her. I blushed madly and quickly jolted my body away but a wave of pain came rushing over me and stopped me. I look down at my arms and saw bandages wrapped around each one. My head and my whole body was hurting and I couldn't bare to move an inch. I was forced to stay in that position.
Why am I bandaged up, and hurting? Why does my head hurt so bad? I thought. The events of earlier in the morning came back to me.

Flashback to 8 am.

"let me go!" I screamed. Jasper was rambling on and on about something but it was inaudible to me as i was screaming. "ugh! I said let me-" she punched me multiple times in the face and stomach. She then laughed, and dropped me. I think I blacked out, because I was in Peridot's arms being carried when I opened my eyes, and then I was at our dorm, laying on my bed.
"this might sting, okay?" I didn't know what was happening, but I nodded in slight fear of what she was about to do. She poured hydrogen peroxide onto all my cuts and scrapes and every second of it hurt. It took a while, but eventually she finished wrapping my arms up with bandages, and placed ice packs on all my bruises. I fell asleep, and she stayed by my side.

End of flashback

I felt tears pricking my eyes. I wiped my watery eyes. I heard her mumble something.
"...dont... Hurt her...Jasper.." she murmured.
I looked at her in disbelief.
She knows Jasper?
She groaned and stirred, which was a sign she was waking up. I pretended that I was still sleeping. She gave one more groan and opened her eyes. I could tell she was blushing madly. She quietly got up and went to the kitchen. I heard her squealing.

**Peridot's POV**

I was squealing as quiet as I could. My face was completely red, thoughts were coming in and out of my head, and I was shaking. I didn't understand these feelings. I mean, i was just sleeping next to her. Thats what we all did in middle school at sleep overs.. Right? My thoughts were interrupted by giggling. I peeked my head out of the kitchen and saw Lapis was awake, and giggling.
"i.. I see you're awake." i said quietly.
"yeah.. Thanks for helping me by the way."
"no problem." I gave a warm smile. She smiled back, but that smile soon turned into a straight face.
Are we not gonna discuss the fact i slept with her? And she was SPOONING me?
"so.... You know Jasper?" she began.
I quickly forgot what i was thinking. "uh.. Er... Yeah.."
"how?" she began to ask more questions.
"im one of her ex's. She...wasn't the best girlfriend."
"i learned that the hard way." she started.
"im also one of her ex's. She was-"
"abusive?" i interrupted her and finished her sentence.
"....Yeah. However, I did worse to her." I looked at her.
"I abused her emotionally. I had to. Lots of things were going on and I had to take it out on someone. Im not as innocent and good as you think. Im horrible. I regret everything i did to her." i was shocked at what she had said. But I knew she was a good person. I walked up to her and sat next to her.
"Lapis, I know how you feel.. You regret something you did in the past, and you wish you could go back and fix it. All you can do is wish. But if you learn from your mistakes, and move on, you could have such a better life, Lapis. Trust me." I finished my speech and waited for her response. She said nothing... Until she sat up snd hugged me. I hesitated, but I hugged back.
"thanks, Peri. I needed that."
I replayed what I heard her call me. I pulled away.
"Peri?"
"its a nickname i randomly came up with."
"er..."
"would you rather be called a dorito?"
"..No. Peri is okay."
Lapis giggled.
There was a long moment of silence before I spoke.
"how are you feeling?"
"everything hurts." she deadpanned.
"ill go make some tea, then."
I got up to get a kettle and put water inside it, and onto the stove it went.

**Lapis's POV**

I saw Peridot walk to the kitchen to make tea. I looked around the dorm out of boredom.
Tea sounds nice. I thought. Wonder what kind she is making.
A while later, she came in with a cup of tea.
"here ya go Lap-"
She tripped over a melted ice pack mid-sentence, dropping her glasses, while the cup of tea spilled all over the floor, and herself.
"oh my god! Peridot, you okay??"
She looked angry. But in an odd way.. I noticed her eyes. They were turning... yellow??
"gah! Stupid ice pack! How did i not-"
She stopped and closed her eyes for a second. They were back to their green state.
Am I imagining things?
She had calmed down and picked up her glasses, the cup, and the ice pack. She went back into the kitchen to grab another cup of tea, and came back, making sure there wasn't anything on the floor she'd trip over. She handed me my tea.
"here. Sorry about that."
"u-uh.... Yeah its o-okay."
She looked confused.
"something wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost."
I hesitated at first, but I thought it'd be best to tell her.
"y-your eyes. When you got angry.. They turned yellow."
She widened her eyes. She smiled nervously.
"im sure you were just seeing things. Besides, you still need rest." she replied.
Maybe she was right. But I thought it was strange. I mean.. Her eyes turned. Yellow, and it looked and felt so real. I sipped my tea deep into thought.
Only a lycan's eyes turn yellow when they get angry, or when they feel like turning into their animal form..
I choked on my tea and coughed up a storm. Peridot was patting my back as I was coughing.
"(cough)..Thanks." I managed to whimper out my mouth.
"no problem." she said.
It was silent for many moments after.
"Peri.." i started.
"yeah?"
"your eyes didn't really turn yellow.. Did they?"
She paused for a moment.
"of course not, Lapis. What? Do you think im a werewolf or something?" she chuckled.
I didn't reply.
Maybe I am crazy..
"erm.. No. Im just feeling weird today i guess." I replied blankly.
We just looker at each other for a while until she grabbed my hand and walked towards the door. It hurt to walk the first few steps, but i got used to it soon after.
"where sre we going?" i asked.
"out."
"what about Jasper? What if she shows up again and hurts us?"
She paused, and then spoke.

"i won't let that happen."
