I pulled into the back alley of an old building that looked abandoned. This must be the old meeting place. I was never told where it was or what it was, just that they had to meet somewhere else due to the issue of people using it again.
Dana and I got out of the truck and followed Carlo, Ashton, and the twins inside. The twins also had confused looks on their faces. We ducked in between two boards that covered a small hole in the wall. One of the boards had been ripped away so that we were able to get inside.
When we entered the building a musky scent filled the room and it was dark other than the slice of sunlight between the cracks between boards.
"Wow, it's been forever since we were here!" Ashton said, a smile on his face that was pure joy. "This place is like my second home. Actually more Like my better home."
"You came here a lot?" I asked confused. Maybe I didn't know Ashton as well as I thought I did.
"Yeah. This is where I was living for a while. That is until Carlo found me here one day after I realized he had followed me," Ashton said, glaring over at Carlo.
"You're never going to let that go, are ya?" Carlo asked shaking his head.
"Wolves aren't used to being stalked. We are used to being the stalker," Ashton said. I saw him jump onto a couch that looked a hundred years old.
"Wait, wait. You lived here?" I asked. Okay maybe I knew absolutely nothing about Ashton.
"Yeah. I ran away from home after my dad attacked me. You remember that, don't you? When we were 15 and you didn't have your ability yet?" Ashton asked. A pained look crossed his face.
"Yeah, how could I forget?" I asked remembering the scene.
*Flashback*
"Wren!" I heard a voice yell from downstairs. The person sounded in pain. I raced down the two flights of stairs and saw Ashton leaning against the counter heavily.
"Ashton? What happened to you?" I asked running to his aid. He had a dark circle under one of his eyes that would obviously turn into a black eye. He was gripping his side and he had blood on his face.
"My dad...," Ashton wasn't able to finish because his legs buckled under him. I quick ducked under his arm and carried him to the couch. I laid him down and felt his head. He was burning up and he was soaking wet from the rain.
I got up and ran to the kitchen. I grabbed a towel and soaked it in cold water. I put it on Ashton's head and went upstairs to raid my closet full of blankets. I grabbed three and walked back downstairs. Ashton was trying to sit up but I pushed him back down and set the blankets over him.
"Honestly Wren, I will be fine by morning," Ashton mumbled.
"Nobody heals that fast, Ashton. It'll take at least three days for you to "be fine," I said. Ashton looked away from my eyes and something crossed his face. He opened his mouth like he was going to tell me something but he stopped himself. What was that about?
"Just relax and call me if you need anything, alright? Try to get some sleep," I said. Ashton nodded and let his eyes close.
I was halfway up the stairs when I heard Ashton whisper, "Thanks Wren."
"No problem. You're my best friend, right?" I said looking at him. He smiled and gave me a thumbs up. I smiled back then went up the stairs to my room.
When I woke up the next morning and went downstairs, Ashton was gone.

"Yeah. But after I left I came here. I didn't want to burden you," Ashton said, shrugging like it wasn't a big deal.
I rolled my eyes. There was still a lot I had to learn about that kid.
"Anyways! The reason I took you out of school is because of this," Carlo said, flipping open his phone and showing us a picture of a charred building. There were spurts of flame here and there still but other than that it was in a black pile, completely unrecognizable.
"That's the secondary police station," Carlo said. My eyes widened. We had two police stations in our town. The secondary one didn't even look like a police station and was way smaller.
"The Thwigs attacked three hours ago. Of course no human knows that because they can't see them. That," Carlo said pointing to a dark shadow that I had just realized. "Is a Thwig. They have made their move to attack the town. We have to do something before they attack again,"
"Wait, I thought you said they wouldn't mess with humans until they were mire developed?" Dana asked.
"That's what I thought but as you can see, they just want to terrorize stuff. It's only a matter of time before they move to a different town or attack another building. Or a human," Carlo said. We all widened our eyes at that.
"Would they attack an actual person?" Brooke asked in her innocent voice. She seemed to gentle to be doing this stuff.
"Yes, it's been done before," Carlo said. He turned his head away from us and walked away.
"So... What do we do?" Brendan asked. He was shuffling impatiently.
"We attack. As soon as all of you are properly trained," Carlo growled.
"Okay, so when will the training take place?" Ashton asked, crossing his arms and putting on his serious face.
"Now. You guys will not be going to school anytime soon. You also won't be going home. We stay here and train. It's safer. The Thwigs are looking for us and we can't give them the chance to attack us," Carlo said.
"Wait! We can't go home? What about our parents?" Dana asked.
"Ashton and Wren don't have any issues. Tell your parents you are at Wren's for the week. Brooke and Brendan should also be good since they live with you, right Ashton?" Carlo asked.
"Yeah my dad won't care about us," Ashton grumbled.
"Excellent. Dana arrange with your parents. The rest of you, get training," Carlo said with a smile on his face. For some reason I knew this was going to be a hard and painful week. Looking at Ashton I knew he felt the same.
