"Hey Wren," Dana said as she walked into my room. She had a smile on her face and I knew there was about to be teasing.
"Shut up Dana," I said as I rolled my eyes. I was typing stuff on my laptop and wasn't in the mood to talk about my kiss with Ashton the night before.
"Oh come on! What are you even doing?" Dana asked as she walked over to me.
"Keeping track of the Thwig's movements. I think they have a pattern," I said. Dana rolled her eyes.
"Just because you're the chosen one doesn't mean you have to go crazy about all of this," Dana said.
"Yes, yes I do. If I don't, who will?" I asked.
Dana shook her head and flopped into one of my spiral chairs.
"So anyways, you scored with Ashton?" Dana launched. She was leaning on her knees.
"Sure," I said rolling my eyes. I knew this would happen
"It's kind of a yes or no question, Wren," Dana stated. She was still leaning towards me, with that face of a complete gossip freak.
"I'm busy right now, Dana. So kindly leave," I said and went back to typing.
"Oh! I know why I came up here. Carlo said he needed to talk to you," Dana said and spun around in the chair.
"That's nice. What does he want?" I asked. Dana shrugged.
"How would I know. He hates me," Dana said and walked out the door.
I sighed and shut my laptop. I stood up and stretched. I was still stiff from the fight the night before.
When I got downstairs Ashton was asleep on the couch. He hadn't moved since the night before. Carlo was on his laptop and the twins were in a hushed conversation.
"Ah perfect, Wren. I need to talk to you," Carlo said. As soon as the twins heard my name they stopped and looked at me. Then they slowly walked upstairs, like they usually did when Carlo needed to talk to me.
"Yeah, I figured," I said to Carlo and walked over to him. I leaned on the island.
"We need to stop the Thwigs," Carlo said. I sighed and put my head in my hands.
"What do you think I've been trying to do? Make muffins? Even though that sounds amazing compared to what we are actually doing, it's not happening," I said. Carlo glared at me and Ashton mumbled something about "muffins".
"Don't be a bitch," Carlo growled. I rolled my eyes at him and walked to the couch to wake up Ashton.
"Hey, Wren! Come here I'm not done talking to you!" Carlo called to me.
I swung around and glared at him. "You may be older, and the leader of us, but you can't make me do anything," I hissed quietly. Carlo glared at me with pure hatred and I turned back to Ashton.
I sat next to him and leaned over him. He had a large bruise on his nose and under his right eye. If he looked bad, I didn't want to know how I looked. I had been avoiding mirrors all day. I brushed a stray piece of hair from Ashton's eye and his eyes flickered open.
"Hey," Ashton said and sat up slowly. He winced and sat his back to the end of the couch. I was still sitting by him, our faces quite close.
Ashton opened his mouth to say something and then stopped and his eyes went to my cheek.
"Oh God, Wren," Ashton said and brushed his hand over my bruised cheek.
"It'll be gone by sundown. It's fine," I said and grabbed his hand. "Besides, you have a nice bruise too."
"I shouldn't have let you go in there with me. My dad, he's never liked women. Because of my mom. My dad thinks she died on purpose. To get back at my dad for all the bad stuff he did to her. My dad never liked kids," Ashton babbled on.
"Ashton, it's okay. I'm fine," I said with a smile. Ashton looked me in the eyes.
"Are you?"

I flipped onto the floor, still wrapped in blankets. My haze of sleep was still in my mind as I tried to figure out what had happened. I felt a breeze and saw that my balcony door was open. I ripped my blankets off of me and something went over my mouth. I didn't breath knowing it had to be chloroform. I kicked out and struck my attackers stomach. The rag disappeared from my face.
I looked down at the person who was dressed in black. They were almost instantly on their feet again and punched at my face. I ducked and tried to ram into the person but they threw out their arm and I smacked into it and landed on the ground.
The person smashed their foot into my stomach three times with immense power. I yelled out in pain as I heard a sharp crack in my side, twice at once.
I moaned in pain and didn't move as the person bent down at my length. My eyes were blurry with pain and exhaustion. I wasn't about to give up this fight. Before I could think, I was shifting and flying at my attacker. Almost as fast as I had charged at the person, they grew fur, shrank, and their eyes glowed dangerously. But their eyes weren't blue. They were a dark blood red in the dark.
The person had shifted into a tiger. Needless to say, I was screwed. I was trying to keep my weight off of my throbbing left side the best I could. I backed away from the tiger but it followed in close pursuit. I knew there was only one way out of this so I charged at the large beast.
The tiger lashed out at me as I ran and I dodged its paw and drew my claws down its muzzle. It let out a quiet roar of pain and jumped at me. I moved to the left but the tiger batted me with its large paws, on my injured side. I let out a howl of pain. I fell to the ground and felt myself shifting back into my human form.
"That's why you don't mess with the Association," A familiar voice said. I tried to place it but my mind was hazy again and the last thing I remember is the smell of blood and a loud crash.

Ooooo plot twist that even I wasn't expecting. I wonder if anyone can guess who that person was. There are some hints that I dropped in the earlier chapters :)
