"The chosen one?" Dana asked quietly. I had heard of the legend before but nobody believed it. The chosen one was supposed to be the one to end the war between Thwigs and Animagi.
"Why me?" I asked.
"Who knows. Nobody is sure how we are chosen either," Carlo said. Ashton ran a hand through his hair and sighed.
"Is there anything else that is going on? Am I going to spontaneously explode as well?" I asked, only half kidding.
"No. We just need to be prepared. Anything could happen at anytime," Carlo said. He turned his back on me and went outside. The twins looked at each other once and then raced upstairs.
"Well. . . now we know," Dana said with a shrug.
"Yeah, aren't we lucky," I said sarcastically and crossed my arms.
Dana sighed heavily and looked at Ashton. Ashton shrugged and I raised an eyebrow.
"What just happened there?" I asked.
"Might as well tell her," Dana said. Ashton groaned and looked at me.
"My dad called," Ashton said. Immediately my stomach jerked.
"He thinks I ran away so he called the police station and now half the town is looking for me," Ashton said. He put his head in his hands.
"Maybe you should tell him that you didn't run away. Maybe you should go back to your dad's for a little while," Dana suggested.
"He would kill me if I walked through that door. He will do worse than what he has done before," Ashton said. His voice was low and sadeness was in his voice.
"No he won't. Ashton it's the right thing to do," Dana said. Ashton didn't move.
"You don't want the cops to come here, do you?" Dana pressed. Ashton looked up at Dana and then looked at me. Dana didn't know too much about Ashton's dad except that he was an alcoholic. She didn't know about his violent behavior.
"We'll go with you," I said as Ashton looked at me. His eyes lit up and a half smile crossed his face.

"You guys should stay out here," Ashton said as I pulled into Ashton's drive way.
"I'm going in with you," I said. I wasn't going to let Ashton face his dad alone.
"No, I don't want-," Ashton started.
"This isn't up for debate," I said as I stepped out of the truck. It was dark and it was raining.
"Wren-," Ashton started but I just walked to the door with him by my side.
"Wren stop!" Ashton said as I got onto the porch. He blocked me from the door. There was obvious fear in his eyes.
"I don't want you going in there," Ashton said. He had never brought me into his house before.
"I said this isn't for debate," I growled. Ashton sighed and turned towards the door. He reached forward and opened it.
"Who's there!?" A voice called from a different room. Ashton and I stepped into a hallway that branched off into different rooms.
Ashton took a deep breathe and said, "Its me, dad."
"Ashton? Get in here!" His dad called. Ashton led me down the hallway and turned into the living room. Ashton's dad was sitting on the couch and the tv was on.
