"Wren!" Ashton yelled as he ran down the hill, limping slightly.
Ashton ran up to me and looked at Derin's lifeless body. His mouth dropped open and he looked at me. My legs wobbled and threatened to give way. Whether that was because I had just killed my brother or found out that I had a brother was a question I couldn't answer.
"Are you alright? You're not looking too good," Ashton said. I was positive that my face was pure white.
"I'm-"
I didn't finish though. The clouds all seemed to part and the moon shone through, illuminating everything in light. I looked down at Derin and saw that he was lying in a pool of black blood. His eyes staring at nothing. Then, all at once, his body was gone.
"What just happened?" I asked. Ashton just grabbed my wrist and directed me back up the hill.
Ashton didn't answer me, he just kept dragging me up the hill. As soon as we crested it, the only people that were there was Dana, Carlo, Brooke, Brendan, Will and his group.
"Where's Derin?" Will growled.
I opened my mouth to answer but Ashton cut me off.
"Back in hell, where he belongs," Ashton said. Will's mouth dropped open and he stared at me.
"You killed Derin?" Will whispered, almost too quite for me to hear.
I nodded. My hands felt numb and the knife in my hand felt like a dead weight, no longer something that could protect me.
"Where's the rest of the AOAC?" I asked. My voice sounded course and I realized just how exhausted I felt.
"They fled. The AOAC didn't have too many people in it, so when we killed their leader and whoever could have been the next leader, there was no way they could have pulled themselves together," Will explained. He had a scratch across his face and his accent seemed less full. That's when I noticed that his eyes weren't the orange that they had been. Now they were a beautiful blue that sparkled in the moon light. I looked at the rest of his group and saw that they too had blue eyes much like my own.
"When one destroys their own kind for the good of the human race, we become distinguishable from them," Will said, noticing my shock at the change of eye color.
"That's amazing," Dana breathed. She seemed unharmed but then I saw her long sleeve shirt was ripped on the arm and there was blood soaking the sleeve.
Nobody spoke for a long time. Here and there there was a blood stain on the pavement or a mark where a claw was scrapped.
Finally, Brooke spoke the one thing that nobody wanted to say. "Now what?"
Carlo looked around at each of us, as if measuring just how much each of us wanted him to answer then finally said, with a great sigh, "We go home."

"Derin was your brother, I suspected that much. Two children were born, on the same day. One a child of darkness and the child of the devil and the other a child of light and goodness. I suppose you know who is who," Will said. We were sitting at my house and discussing the night's events with Dana, Carlo, and Ashton.
"Your father suspected that there was something different about Derin. Something. . . off. And I guess he was right. He put Derin up for adoption and a young couple adopted him. The couple told Derin when he was six that he was in fact, adopted. Derin didn't like this at all so when the couple went to bed one night, he murdered them in cold blood. Derin ran away and for several years nobody knew where he was," Will said and I lowered my head.
"That's when Derin ran into a Thwig. At the time, Thwigs were just demons. Not able to attack people or do anything other than sulk in the forest. So of course when Derin came along, the Thwig took advantage of him. Possessed him. Derin had a piece of a Thwig in him from there on out, strengthening the demons' ability to destroy humans. Derin created the AOAC and created things much like what your father had been," Will said and my mind swirled. Everything seemed too impossible.
Derin's words swirled in my head. "I distinctly remember trying to add your father to my organization. . ."
Almost as if Will understood what I meant, he said, "Derin never actually created the Animagi species, but he took credit for it. Your father was an Animagi long before you and Derin were born. He passed the trait onto you and Derin, but Derin wanted an army. An army of humans that could shape shift. So he got blood samples of Animagi and created a substance that could make anyone into what he was."
"And then he said that he was the one who created the idea of Animagi," I finished for him and Will nodded.
"What about my dad though?" Carlo asked and Will looked at him like he was an idiot.
"Same generation that Wren's dad came from. I'm not sure how they were created, but there were a lot of them. Then they disappeared," Will said and shrugged. My mind was buzzing and I had a growing hatred for Derin.
"So in other words I was just born into a family of complete whack jobs and given the prophecy of having to kill Derin?" I asked and Will shrugged.
"That's one way to sum it all up," Will said and I sighed.
"Wren, everything is over. There's nothing more to do," Ashton said and took my hand in his.
I hesitated before saying the one thing that had been on my mind.
"That's the scary thing. There's nothing else for us to do."
