Hope's Best friend

Going Home But No Home To Go To

As summer break started Hope was packing to go home. I was practicing a spell. It got out of hand and I end up making all of Hope's clothes go everywhere.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." I stand up helping her pick up the clothes.

"It's okay." She smiles as she places that stuffed bear in her suitcase. "When are your parents getting here?" She asks.

"Um I don't have parents. I mean I did. They just died." I look down at the ground.

"Oh I'm so sorry. Where will you go over break?" She comes over to me.

"I stay here. Well sometimes I travel with Mrs. Salvatore. To get new recruits. But I mostly just sit here. "?  I explain. We close her suitcase.

She looks around the room. She looks like she's about to say something when someone knocks on our door.

I go and open it. It's her mother.

She runs up to Hope and hugs her. "Hey baby girl. How are you?"

"I'm great mom. This is my friend Lilly. She is going to come live with us for the summer." Hope says.

"Oh. Well we have to talk to the headmaster and professor Saltzman." Haley looks shocked.

"Please mom. She has no one. She would be stuck here all summer alone. Please mom. I don't want her to be alone." Hope begs.

She gets down to Hope's level. "Okay. I'll go talk to Caroline and Alaric. You help her pack." Haley smiles. She stands up and walks out of the room.

Hope goes and grabs my bag from our closet. It's just a little duffel. No bigger than a backpack.

"Where are all your clothes?" She asks.

"I don't have many. Just two outfits for the weekends and pajamas. Well and my school uniform." I shrug.

"Okay we'll go shopping. I need new clothes anyway. I'm growing out of mine fast. For now where this." She throws me some clothes. I am smaller than her. So I can wear her old clothes.  I throw on a simple black tank top and some skinny jeans. I lace up old black ankle boots. I put my mess of what I call hair into a long fishtail braid.

Hope takes my hand and drags me out the door. Mine and her bags in hand.

"Mom had to of talk to them by now."?  She says as we turn the corner to head down the stairs. As we enter the main hall we see Haley with the headmaster and professor Saltzman.

Hope let's go of my hand and runs up to her mom.

I walk over cautiously.

"What did they say?" Hope asks.  She looks up at Mrs. Salvatore.

"We think it will be an exciting adventure." Caroline says. She looks over at me. Getting to my level. "Haley  says she'll take great care of you. You are going to have so much fun. As long as you are good." She hugs me.

"Thank you Mrs. Salvatore." I hug her back. "I promise I'll be the best guest possible." I promise.

"Okay go get in the car. " Haley tells us both.

I grab my bag and Hope grabs hers. We walk out to a blue jeep. We get in the back. I see Haley hug Caroline. As they pull apart she says something. I can't make it out. She turns around and gets in the car.

"Okay who is ready for this adventure?" She claps her hands. She turns on the car and puts it in drive. We take off for New Orleans.

"How long is this drive?" I ask.

"Um about 7 hours, but mom can do it in 6." Hope laughs.

"So Lilly where are you from?" Haley asks.

"Um Florida. But I haven't been there since I was 6." I look out the window.

"Her mom's a wolf  and her dad's a witch or warlock. But they died." Hope lowers her voice.

"Hope that is rude to just blurt out."  Haley snaps at her.

"It's okay. My mom died saving me from vampires when I was three." I explain. "My dad died  in an accident when I was 7."

"Oh I'm so sorry honey."  Haley says looking at us through the rearview mirror. 

"It's fine. I'm actually excited to go to New Orleans. My mom was part of the crescent wolf pack." I say excitedly.

"Oh did you know her last name?"

I think about for a little while. "Um Jennifer Kenner I think."

Haley gasps and the car swerved a little.  Hope and I scream. "I'm sorry girls." She straightens the car. She gets off at the next exit. "How about we stop for ice cream." Haley says as we pull into an icecream parlor.

"Yay." Hope and I say in unison.

We both jump out of the car.

"Girls get whatever you want. I have to make a phone call." Haley hands Hope $20 and walks off.

We walk into the parlor.

A teenager greets us with a smile. "Hi what can I get you two?"

"I want a cookie dough ice cream with  m&ms and rainbow sprinkles. A lot of rainbow sprinkles. In a waffle cone. " Hope says wide eyed.

"I'll have fudge brownie with chocolate sprinkles in a cup please." I ask.

She makes both our orders. "Here you two go." She hands us our ice cream.  "That will be $10.95." Hope hands her the money. As we are getting our change Haley comes in.

"I'll take that." She says grabbing the change from the teenager. "Thank you so much." She looks at our ice cream. "Hope don't you think that's a lot Hope. How would your dad feel about all that sugar?"

"He would say 'whatever the princess wants.'" She giggles at her attempt to mimic her father.

"Oh you're no help. At least give me a bite." Haley says. Hope feeds her mother a bite.

I look down at my treat.

"Lilly sweetie are you okay?" Haley asks.

"Yes. I just miss my parents." I fake a smile.

"Well. I may not be your mom but  I will take care of you no matter what. I promise. You are family now." Haley wipes a piece of hair out of my eyes.

"Always and forever, right mom?" Hope looks up at her.

"That's right baby girl. Always and forever." Haley smiles touching both our cheeks.

"Always and forever." I say.

After we got ice cream we went and played on a playground. I must have fallen asleep after that. When i wake up, I'm in a giant bed. Hope is next to me, fast asleep.

I get off the bed and open the big wooden door.

"Hello!" I call out. I keep walking. "Anyone here?" I ask again. Suddenly a blonde lady comes out of a doorway. I jump.

"I'm sorry sweetie." She says. "I'm Freya. You must be Hope's little friend Lilly." She smiles at me.

"Hi." I wipe my eyes.

"Let's get you back to bed. It's 4 in the morning after all." She says holding out her hand. I take it. She leads me back to Hope's room.

The summer was amazing. That's how I spent all my vacations from school. In New Orleans. I learned more about my wolf side. Turns our my mom was Jackson's cousin. Jackson is Haley's late husband. He was the leader of the crescent wolf pack before his death. I learned more spells from Freya, that the school would never have taught me. It was amazing. Everything in my life was perfect..... until I triggered my curse.
