"Lillian. Is that really you?" She asks again. She comes close to me, trying to wrap her hands around me. I back up putting my hand in front of me.

"Don't." I say. I look over at Hope. She nods at me. I look back at my mother. "I came here to say. I'm happy, without you."

"Would you like to come in?" She asks gesturing me inside.

Hope comes up behind me and we walk in together. We find the kitchen right through the door and to the left. We both pull up a seat and sit down. Jennifer grabs tea from the fridge and sets three cups and the pitcher on the table in front of me. She comes and sits across from me.

"So who are you?" She asks Hope. She's trying to be nice but it comes out rude.

"I'm Hope. Lilly's best friend." She says simply.

"Nice to meet you." She turns back to me. "How is your father?"

"Dad died in a car crash when I was 6." I look away from her.

"I'm so sorry sweetheart." She puts her hands on mine. I pull away fast. "So they put you in foster care?"

"Um. No, I go to a boarding school. Our headmaster is my guardian. Dad signed his rights away when I started going there." I explain.

Jennifer looks at me concerned. "Where do you go?"

"Salvatore Boarding school for the young and gifted." Hope says.

"I've heard of it. You mean supernatural?" She says.

"Yes." I confirm

Her eyes go sorrow. "Have you triggered your curse?"

I gulp. "Yes."

"I'm sorry I wasn't there." She frowns.

I'm about to say something but the door swings open. A little girl about 5 or 6 comes running in a backpack bigger than her on her back. Her brown hair is pigtails. An older man in a cop uniform comes in.  Another little boy comes in he looks maybe 11 or 12.

Jennifer stands up. The little girl runs into her arms.

"Mommy." She says.

"Hello My little princess." Jennifer kisses the little girl in the cheek. She looks at the boy. "And how was your day  Jason?" She asks.

"Fine." He shrugs. She throws his backpack on the ground and runs upstairs.

The mans comes over and kisses Jennifer on the forehead. He looks at Hope and I. "Who are they?"

"They are um..." She starts.

"Girl Scouts. And we were just leaving." I say.

"Let me walk you out." She hands the little girl to the man and starts towards the door.

We all walk outside. Jennifer closes the door behind her. "I'm sorry about that."

"This was a mistake anyway." I start to walk away.

"Lillian wait."

I turn around tears are pooling my eyes. "No! You have a family. Why should I have expected you to tell me? You left your family, so what? You can get a better one!" I'm screaming at this point.

"Lilly calm down." Hope says to me. She puts her hand on my shoulder. I fling it off.

"I'm not going to call down. This woman who is supposed to love me and take care of me left. I was 3. And she didn't leave because she couldn't be a mom. She left because she couldn't be my mom."

"Lillian that's not true." My mother tries to explain. "Why don't you come inside. Please you are making a scene."
I look around neighbors have started to come out of there houses to watch me.

I turn my head to her. "Than why did you leave?"

"You were to powerful." She sighs.

I take a deep breathe.  I look away. "I'm done." I walk away.

I hear my mother screaming for me but I keep walking away.

Hope finally catches up with me. She turns me around.

"Let's just go back to school and deal with that punishment. Can't be any worse than this." I laugh.

"Are you okay?" She asks.

"I will be." I shrug.

We begin our walk to the bus depot.
