Beca's POV

I'm still sitting in the same shop when my phone buzzes on the table again. At least now something's different: I've finally finished my song. Obviously the sound quality won't be the best - I ended up recording the bridge in the hotel bathroom (where the acoustics were better) - but it only has to be good enough to show Sanchez. I can fix it up later, when I'm not in Arizona.

I wasn't sure whether to use those lyrics, considering what's happened, but I did anyway - I mean, songs are supposed to be personal, right? And if I end up never seeing Chloe again, I guess this song can represent what could've been.

How the hell did I not realise how badly I was falling for her?

Clearly, the answer is that I thought I was straight. And what I assumed was normal for a platonic relationship, well, wasn't.

I can't wait to show the Bellas my single; they're the ones who supported me in getting here. Really, I just want to make Chloe proud-

Or maybe she won't be, considering we're not even on speaking terms right now.

Waiting a day before texting? Really?

My phone vibrates again and I realise I've forgotten to read whatever notification there was.

Hey Beca, how's your single
coming along?

Aubrey | 11.32 A.M.
Btw did you want to come to
the retreat today or tomorrow?
I have a pretty empty schedule
and it would be nice to see
you again. Sorry it's pretty
short notice!

Beca | 11.34 A.M.
The single's done, I think. And
sure, but why the urgency?

Aubrey | 11.35 A.M.
Oh, I only just noticed the gap
on my calendar. Busy week,
you know, up until today

Beca | 11.35 A.M.
Sure, I haven't got anything else
to do, I guess I can fly over this
evening if there's a flight

Beca | 11.35 A.M.
Arrive tomorrow morning?

Aubrey | 11.36 A.M.
Great! I can pick you up from
the airport

Aubrey | 11.37 A.M.
Tell me the details when you
know x

After booking a flight to Baton Rouge, I figure it best to return home to LA to get my things. Hopefully the spontaneous decision won't be as disastrous as the last, but who knows. Surely it can only go up from here?

~~~
"Hey, so there's probably something you should know," I tell Aubrey, after giving her the details of my flight over the phone.
"Yes?"
"Chloe and I kinda had a fight. I don't know if she told you anything, like if you FaceTimed or something, maybe I'm not that important-"
"What happened?" Aubrey interrupts.
"I did something stupid," I mutter. "If I could turn back time, I'd react in a whole different way. A lot of things became clear, you know?" I pause, taking a breath. "One moment can change a lot of things, even if you don't realise until afterwards." I sigh, leaning against the wall of the airport.
"Oh, I get you completely. I hate that I never acted on certain things in the past. But some things aren't meant to be, life is like that."
I guess I'm just hoping that's not the case for me and Chloe. But I wouldn't be surprised, considering what I did.
"Yeah. So there's kind of something else I need to tell you too, but maybe not over the phone..." I start, realising I should probably start walking towards the check in desk - my flight isn't that long away. "I'll tell you when I see you. Anyway, I should probably go before I miss my flight. See you in a few hours?"
"Yes, I'll be waiting outside to pick you up. Have a safe journey!" Aubrey enthuses before hanging up.
