Beca's POV

I walk towards the door, taking a deep breath. She's here. Chloe's literally on the other side of this door. Ugh, I'm actually so nervous. And the mighty Beca Mitchell isn't supposed to get nervous. But then again, my reputation isn't identical to reality.
"Beca, get it together. Seriously," I mutter to myself, hoping Chloe can't hear me. Because that would just be embarrassing.

Opening the door, my eyes meet with a pair of intense, piercing blue ones belonging to none other than Chloe Beale - which is unsurprising really, considering Chloe is the person I just invited up.

"Hey," I say, my face slowly breaking into a grin.
"Hey," Chloe replies and proceeds to pick up a rather bulky bag.
"Staying for a week or something?" I raise an eyebrow, gesturing at Chloe's luggage. Chloe smiles gently and shakes her head.
"No, I just have some things," she replies softly. I smile at her. Something about the way she words things always just makes me smile. I don't know why, it just happens.

After a few moments, when I've realised I'm staring at her, I tilt my head back towards the apartment.
"I guess I should let you in then. It's not much, but it's enough," I explain, moving back towards a sofa. I hate how awkward I'm coming across - yeah, I haven't seen Chloe for 6 months, but I've known her for over 7 years. And we've been more intimate with each other than anyone else I've ever known.

Chloe slowly walks around the lounge of my apartment, looking around at everything.
"Seriously? This is 'not much'? That's crazy, this place is insane. I mean, have you seen your view, Bec?" She pauses by one of the windows for a moment before coming over to sit down beside me.
"I think it's really great. You're really grea- I mean the apartment's great," she stumbles slightly. I look up at her and notice she's blushing a little, but in my eyes, a compliment's a compliment, so she doesn't really have anything to be shy about.
"Thanks," I reply, turning a little and leaning forward to hug Chloe. I'm not usually a hugger, but things are always different when it comes to Chloe. She's my best friend, after all.
"I've missed you," Chloe mumbles.
"You too," I reply, pulling away. "So I thought of somewhere we could go for lunch," I add, quickly changing the subject because I've already been way too cheesy.
"Yeah?"

I find myself temporarily unable to respond as I helplessly get distracted by the sight of the girl - woman - in front of me. I'm not gay, but I can't lie - I'm seriously attracted to Chloe. Not sexually, and not in a way that means I want to date her, but there's just something different I can't describe. But whatever it is, it doesn't matter. We're good friends, and that's all I ever want us to be.

"Oh, um, yeah," I reply, slightly flustered. "Did you wanna know where?"
"Surprise me." Chloe giggles.
"Alright." I stand up. "Are you ready to go?"
"Yep," Chloe says, standing up too.
"Okay. I'm just gonna freshen up a little and I'll be with you."
"Awes."
"Yeah, awes."

I walk off into the bathroom, closing the door behind me, not that I need to hide anything from Chloe. Besides, I already learned my lesson about hiding things from her when I got caught in a bear trap after our fight at the retreat.

I quickly reapply my mascara, singing softly as I do so. I don't go as crazy on the makeup as I used to, but I like wearing a little bit, especially if on some days I look like death warmed up without it. I mean, I might as well use a bit of it when there's the option to indulge in a little bit of self-improvement, appearance-wise - I guess I kinda need that. I quickly perfume myself up before heading promptly back out to Chloe.

"Ready," I say, walking over to Chloe, who's stood by one of the floor-to-ceiling windows.
"I can't get enough of this view. It's actually so breathtaking," Chloe comments as she glances back at me.
"Yeah, I guess I felt I should pick the nicest option if I was forced to live around here, you know what I mean?" I shrug.
"Forced?" Chloe echoes, her brow furrowing ever so slightly.
"Oh, um, I just mean... I wanted to live near the label. Plus they pay a bit of the rent," I explain briefly. I don't really want to go into details about it all, so I move away from the window, heading towards the door. If Chloe starts investigating about my life, she'll ask more about the label. And that isn't exactly something I want to talk about right now.

I open the door somewhat loudly and Chloe seems to take the hint. She walks over to me and takes my hand in hers as she reaches me in the doorway.
"I can't wait to hear about everything you've done for the last 6 months," she says happily.

Okay, so maybe she hadn't quite taken the hint.
