Beca's POV

"You're doing really great, Beca," Theo says as I step out of the booth. At first, his encouragement and general presence was kind of adorable in an I'd-never-want-to-date-you-but-you're-still-sweet sort of way, but honestly now he's just irritating.

"First of all, I'm your boss, I don't need you to give your opinion, I'm perfectly capable of telling what's good or not without your input." A couple of people in the next room glance across at us, looking disapprovingly through the glass divide. I bite my tongue, realising maybe I sound just a little bit cocky. "Sorry. I didn't mean that, I'm just... never mind." I sigh and put my head in my hands frustratedly for a few seconds before looking up again. "Secondly though, you do realise none of this is actually working? Like, none of this sounds good enough. Listen to it, Theo. Do any of the lyrics sound like they mean anything more than just words to fill the silence? Is anyone gonna care about it enough to want to hear more than 10 seconds of it?"

Theo doesn't say anything. I roll my eyes.

"Theo, seriously! We're scrapping this before you give me any more of that 'you're doing really well' bullshit, okay?" I say, my voice gaining volume, despite the fact I've attracted more than enough attention to myself already.

I take a deep breath.

"Please could you give me space for five minutes?" I mumble, gazing down at the floor.
"Sure, whatever you need." Theo says and a few moments later, I hear the door close. I look back up again before collapsing into a chair.

I have to admit, we've produced some decent-ish tracks since I was signed, but nothing decent enough, which I guess is why I'm running on a pretty short fuse. If I don't release anything soon, I'll get dropped. And if I get dropped, I have literally nothing. I don't even have the Bellas now.

I miss them all so much, more than I'd ever let on - I mean, I still want to keep up a slight bit of my tough exterior. That final show... there really are no words to describe it. The feeling of unison, the feeling of being in a sisterhood - as a girl who never really got along with other girls in the past, it's actually nice to be there - the feeling of actually belonging somewhere... I thought I'd get a similar sense of happiness by being here but it feels like it's all gone wrong before it's even started.

I need Emily as a lyricist. I need Aubrey to motivate me, as crazy as that sounds, considering how much I used to hate it. I need Amy to somehow create another massive diversion so no one notices how badly I'm messing up. I need Chloe to support me and be there to calm me down whenever I need her, which is honestly an awful lot. I just need all of them to make me feel like I belong somewhere, because right now I couldn't feel lonelier. God, I hate how cringey that sounds.

I take another deep breath and step back into the booth. If you're gonna do anything, just do it for the Bellas. They didn't support you in getting this far for you to waste your opportunity, Beca Mitchell.

~~~
As it begins to get dark, I step out of the booth, heading towards my bag. Theo suddenly steps in the way, being his usual awkward oafish self, and looks down at me. He goes to speak but I immediately cut him off.
"Theo, if I'm gonna react negatively to anything you're about to say, I'd rather you kept quiet, you know?" I say, raising an eyebrow. I step around him and pick up my bag. "I'll... see you tomorrow, Theo. Sorry about today." I mutter bluntly before heading out of the room.
After leaving the building, I get into my car and drive to my apartment around ten minutes away. Obviously I don't know anyone nearby anymore as Amy, Chloe and I stopped being flatmates when I was encouraged (read: forced) to move closer to my new job. I guess I do now get adequate alone time, something I would've loved five years ago, when I thought the meaning of life was to shut yourself away and talk to people only when forced to. But now, well, things are a bit different.
