Beca's POV
A few hours later and Chloe and Aubrey are sat on a sofa in my living room, me walking in from the kitchen with glasses of wine - it feels like an alcohol sort of time, it's been a long day.
Both of them in LA at the same time? This is a little surreal.
Am I complaining though? Hardly. I mean, Aubrey's grown to be one of my closest friends and Chloe, well, I don't think I could get bored of her even if I saw her day in, day out, for the rest of my life.
"You guys can stay as long as you want, by the way," I say as I hand them a glass each. "I kinda dragged you to LA anyway."
"I hardly needed persuading." Chloe winks at me before taking a large sip of her drink.
"But what I think I do need to do is persuade you to drink less," I counteract, winking back at her in a joking way. "Things always happen when you're intoxicated."
Aubrey splutters a little as she laughs.
"She probably wouldn't mind that if it involved you," she mutters.
"Oh my God, Aubrey. I feel like you're my mum trying to embarrass me at a meet-the-parents family dinner. But like, on a constant basis around Beca." Chloe huffs in exasperation.
"But you know it's true. You've told me stuff in the past about what you want," Aubrey mutters loudly.
I just sit and watch them both.
"I was probably drunk! Either way, it was in strict confidence because it's personal!" Chloe whispers back. She stops suddenly and turns back to me with a smile. "Sorry. Anyway..."I can't help but laugh.
"I can't believe I invited two weirdos into my apartment."
Chloe makes a show of putting her glass down on the side, shooting an exaggerated glance at Aubrey.
"I'm not drinking any more tonight. I don't wanna forget any part of the day I've felt happiest." Chloe takes a deep breath. "And, the truth is, I feel I drink way too much, way too often anyway. It's bad."
I reach over and stroke her fingers lightly with my own.
"Hey, it's okay. We can get help if you need it, babe."
"She's right. Honestly I had suspicions before, but I didn't want to interrogate you about it before, in case I was wrong," Aubrey confesses.Chloe raises an eyebrow before glancing at me.
"Speaking of suspicions... Beca was intrigued to find out about your cabin code." Chloe smiles cheekily. I grin, following her lead.
"Yeah, July 31st... that date seems pretty familiar."
"Might even be a birthday... any ideas, Aubrey?"
"Guys, stop. It was the first thing I thought of," Aubrey says quickly.
"You think of a friend's birthday before a best friend's birthday, there's nothing suspicious about that..." I watch Aubrey closely as I take a sip of my drink.
"Stop asking me about it. I miss seeing her," she mumbles.
"Where does she live now?" Chloe asks.
"I don't know. I haven't seen her since we all met in Brooklyn. So she couldn't have lived that far away at the time, considering she couldn't fly," Aubrey considers out loud.
"Message her then and find out," I say directly.
"She's probably too busy now though. She has a kid," she replies quietly."Aubrey, who was the one who insisted I reach out to Beca, despite being nervous?"
"You were nervous? That's so sweet." I smile and sit down in the small space beside Chloe. Resting my head on Chloe's shoulder, I look across at Aubrey. "It didn't work out too bad for Chloe." I grin. "Just do it."
"The last time I listened to your advice, Beca, I lost a job. I understand that it probably was for the best, but I'm still unemployed."The three of us fall silent for a while. I take the moment to get out my phone and subtly send Stacie a message, cutting out the time Aubrey's spending deliberating.

Hey Stace, what's up? Just
wanted to say, Aubrey
really wants to see
you, she's just too
shy to say so.I don't know about the other two, but my mind starts going crazy trying to think of ideas of what Aubrey could do. Then it hits me: I don't actually know what Aubrey likes doing.
"What do you wanna-"
"Oh my God," Chloe exclaims, cutting me off. "This is perfect, Aubrey. You wanted to become a doula?"
"Yes, I did once."
"Don't you still wanna do that?"
"I guess. Why?"
"Wouldn't it be good to get experience by being around a kid...?"
I suddenly catch Chloe's drift and nod enthusiastically. Aubrey shrugs.
"Probably. But I don't know any kid- Oh." She stops. "No. I couldn't. She wouldn't want that-"
"You don't know that-"
"Yes I do."
"No."Chloe and Aubrey continue to bicker, but I begin to block them out as I open my phone to check for messages. Surprisingly, one's already come through from Stacie.
Stacie | 8.36 P.M.
Hey Beca! I was just feeding
Bella, it's so good to hear
from you :) I'd love to see
Aubs too, I didn't know
she liked me that much
to want to meet up,
otherwise I would've
said something first,
whoops.Beca | 8.37 P.M.
Stacie, please say something to
Aubrey right now, I wanna
prove that you don't hate
herSeconds later, I hear someone else's ringtone and Aubrey quickly reacts to it, getting her phone from the table where it's been charging.
Her eyes widen in shock.
"Stacie's calling?!"

Ayyyy who knew when I started this that this book was gonna become staubrey as well as bechloe 😂
Serious question tho, why do we all ship staubrey so much? Like I think it's cute, but where's the basis for it? They don't really have many scenes? 😂
Not shading staubrey, I just wasn't here right from the very start of the fandom so idk 😂
