The whole plane shook as we finally landed in Croatia. Everyone began awkwardly clapping for some reason I do not know. I always hate when people do that. Like why are you congratulating the pilot on landing safely and not crashing? It's his bloody job to fly planes!! I'm sure hairdressers don't get a clap every time they do someone's hair. It's just stupid ok.

We waited for a painfully long time until the seatbelt sign went off and we could finally get our hand luggage and get off this roasting hot plane. To be perfectly honest, it's gonna probably be warmer outside than inside but never mind. We raced along the aisle, adrenaline rushing through our veins as the excitement built. We were the last in our class to get off so we wanted to keep up.

Eventually, we made it to the door and we all just stood at the top of the stairs, taking in the full atmosphere. The warmth of the air hit us and suddenly I felt a sense of comfort. I looked over the horizon, across the blue skies and beyond the airport grounds, towards all the trees and grass. It was beautiful.

Harper : wow...

As Harper had only ever gone on one holiday to Sweden in her 17 years of living, she was even more amazed than Syd and I. I could see the corners of her mouth tilt upwards and her eyes widen as she gazed over the land.

It was then that I realised we had been standing by this door for an extremely long time and were probably keeping everyone waiting. I looked behind and saw a queue of unimpressed middle aged adults staring at the three of us.

Sam : oh I do apologise.

I nudged Syd and Harper to go and so we made our way down the stairs.

Sydney : oh I do apologise!

She said this in THE most poshest voice I had ever heard come out her mouth as she made an attempt to imitate me.

Sam : what? It's my adult language.

We all laughed as we ran to catch up with the group.

Principal : so it's gonna take around 15 minutes to get to the hotel and then you're gonna have to unpack before dinner.

Sydney : dinner?!?!

I looked at my watch to see that it was already 3 in the afternoon. How did that day just disappear like that!

We all climbed onto the bus. The three of us sighed as we saw that it was only double seats instead of triples so we all knew what was to come. This happened a lot so we were kinda used to it and took turns as to who is going alone.

Sydney : so who's being a loner this time?

There was silence.

Sam : I'll go seen as Sydney went last time.

Sydney : Harper's next then

Harper : deal.

I watched as both of them went to sit down together. I, on the other hand, sat in the only other available seat on the bus which just so happened to be next to Daniel.

Now, let me tell you a little bit about Daniel. He's fluent in 4 languages but that's not important. He picks his nose ALL the time. He farts without even knowing it. He likes to talk to you even if you don't want to talk to him. He doesn't like any food except from chips and pretzels. He enjoys telling you stories about his experiences with slugs. He's friends with everyone but no one is friends with him if that makes any sense. Hence why there's a spare seat next to him to which I reluctantly sat down on.

Daniel : oh hey Sam! This one time in scout camp I was eating a pretzel but then this slug was on it and I accidentally chewed a bit of it!

This was gonna be a long bus journey...
