I awoke from the banging of our door. We all jumped at the sound of it and went to check our phones for the time. The noise was followed by a teacher shouting.
Teacher : breakfast in 20 minutes!
Harper : ok!
I looked at my phone to see that it was only 7:40 in the morning! I let my head rest back down on the pillow and closed my eyes only to hear Harper nagging me to get up. Harper was a morning person. I was not.
Sydney wasn't usually a morning person but she got up anyway, probably because she was so excited for the day ahead. I was too, just not as excited as the others.
I did eventually get up and began doing my hair. The room was silent. No one knew what to say after last nights events. As soon as I got back from the games room I went straight back to bed, not even explaining to Harper what had happened.
Sydney : are we gonna talk about last night or?
I remained quiet, brushing the tugs out of my hair.
Sydney : so I'm guessing that's a no?
Sam : there's nothing to talk about.
Sydney : what about the fact you screamed at Marcus and then ran out of the room!?
Harper : who's Marcus?
Sam : I didn't scream at him.
Sydney : it was pretty loud to me.
Sam : I told you before that I wanted to go back to the room.
Sydney : yeah, and then you changed your mind.
Harper : from what?
Sam : well it changed again.
Sydney : so what was the screaming?
Sam : I told you, I didn't scream!
Harper : what happened last night?
Sydney : Sam, I heard it!
Sam : well you heard wrong!
The room fell silent once more after my voice raised from that last comment. I walked into the bathroom with my clothes and began getting changed. As I took my long sleeved top off I examined the bruises that were spread out over both my arms.
How can I still be terrified when I'm thousands of miles away from him? How can he have the ability of making me afraid no matter where I go? He's left his mark on me. Physically and emotionally. And there's no way out.
Harper : Sam, we need to go!
I quickly threw on my top and jumper and made my way out of the bathroom to the others. We all walked out of our room, remembering to take the key card with us, and began walking along the corridor to breakfast.
Sam : can we just put it behind us?
Sydney looked at me and smiled, nodding her head.
Sydney : besides that, it was a fun night.
Sam : yeah.
Harper : guys?
We both looked at her, puzzled.
Harper : are you gonna tell me what happened or not?
Sam : oh yeah so-
Emily : Hey, guys wait up!!
We heard the call from behind us.
Sydney : oh hi!
Sophie : how did you guys sleep last night?
They continued to chat as I watched Harper, sighing. She must be so curious as to what actually happened last night. I would be.
We all walked down to the ground floor towards the breakfast buffet hall. When we made it there we all sat down at a table together beside a window.
Syd and I scanned the room to see if we could catch sight of Marcus and Martinus. They were no where to be seen. Why was I even looking? Why did I even care? I confused myself. I found that I wasn't even concentrating on the conversation that was taking place at my table, but instead, focused on finding the twins that haven't left my mind all night.
I couldn't even understand my own actions. I just seemed to not stop thinking about them. I couldn't help it. Not even Sydney was as bothered.
Harper : Sam? Sam?!?
Sam : ..yeah? What!?
Harper : you coming to get food?
Sam : oh yeah.
I got up from the table and followed Harper to the buffet selection. I had finally found something else to concentrate on, what to pick to eat? There was so much choice! The hall was filled with aisles and aisles of food from bacon and egg to waffles and maple syrup.
Sydney : this is too stressful!
Sam : I just want everything!
Sydney : go for it!
I decided that I don't normally get a chance to just have whatever I want for breakfast so began piling food upon my plate. By the time I was nearly finished and I had just about filled my entire plate, I was lost and couldn't find our table or anyone I recognised. Great.
I began walking around, aimlessly. But then something else caught my eye and so I began piling more upon my plate. I was just finding space on my plate when someone came and stood right next to me.
I didn't think anything of it until they spoke.
Marcus : got enough food there?
I jumped at the sound of his all so familiar voice. I looked up at his gleaming eyes and cheeky grin, startled that he was stood before me.
Sam : em yeah, just about.
He laughed. I went to place the spoon down by the tray before Marcus went to grab it. My hand stroked the side of his as he took it off me.
Marcus : so where did you run off to last night?
I stood still, not knowing what to say next. I think he sensed my awkwardness.
Marcus : look, I'm sorry. I never meant to scare you like that.
Sam : I know, it alright.
Marcus : ....do you want to talk about what I saw?
Sam : no.
I began walking away.
Marcus : please Samantha, I want to help.
Sam : leave me alone, that would help.
I walked off with my plate, not looking back. I made it to our table and sat down in silence. Syd nudged me whispering to me.
Sydney : did you see them?
Sam : nope.
She sighed and began to eat her breakfast. Suddenly I didn't feel hungry anymore and the food that piled on my plate didn't look appetising any longer. I sat back in my chair and scanned the room, suddenly catching sight of Marcus and Martinus at a table in the distance. I noticed Marcus staring at me. I looked down, trying not to make eye contact.
