Sydney : guess what!?!
Harper and I stopped what we were doing and looked over to her, in curiosity, standing in the corner of our hotel room holding her phone and smiling.
Sam : what?
She pressed something on her phone and suddenly 'dance with you' blasted through the speakers. Harper and I rolled our eyes as she began dancing around the room like no one was watching.
Harper : please let me do your makeup for dinner!?
She pleaded with me as I lay on my bed, munching on my bag of sweets that I bought from the sweet shop earlier in the day.
Sam : no.
Harper : why not?!?
Sam : cause you know why.
Harper : but you'll look so good!
Sam : I don't wear makeup Harper. Never have and never will.
Harper : why not though!?
Sam : I don't like it.
Harper : pleaseeee?
Sam : no.
Harper : pleaseeee?!?!
Sam : no.
Harper : I'll never ask you ever again?
Sam : really?
Harper : yeah! I promise!!! Just tonight and then you won't need to see makeup ever again!
Sam : .....well....ok then.
Harper : YES!!! Ok come over here.
I shuffled over onto her bed next to mine as she prepared the bags and bags of makeup, meanwhile Sydney continued dancing around us. Harper began lining up all the products that were all about to be factors of transforming my face into something somewhat presentable.
Even though I'd always hated the thought of layers and layers of makeup on my face, I've always thought it looked pretty on other people. I just never thought of trying it on myself. But you never know, I may actually change my mind after this experience. I strongly doubt it though.
Firstly, she began massaging several creams into my skin and I'm not gonna lie, I didn't mind that bit. But then she began with the foundation, powder, bronzer, blusher and highlighter and you can imagine by that point I was getting extremely bored, not to mention smothered.
As she was applying the eye shadow to my eye lid and Sydney had ran out of energy to dance any more so sat next to Harper watching, she became suspiciously quiet like she was thinking about something or maybe about to tell me something.
Sam : what is it?
She continued to brush the colours onto my eye lid, not giving anything away.
Sam : Harper?
Harper : ...why were you holding Marcus' hand on the cable car today?
Sydney : you were what?!?
Sam : oh...that...
Harper : what were you thinking Sam!?
Sam : I don't know....to be honest, he reached for mine.
Harper : you didn't let go until you caught me looking!
Sam : I know...I don't know what I was thinking...
Harper : yeah, neither. You can't forget that you have a boyfriend at home who loves you to pieces! You can't do that to him!
Sam : I-I know...
Harper : you need to tell him.
Sam : what?
Harper : you need to tell Marcus you have a boyfriend or he'll get the completely wrong idea, you're leading him on Sam.
Sam : I will...soon.
'Without you' by Marcus and Martinus began playing from Sydney's phone and so Sydney screamed at the top of her lungs, singing along.
Sam : I saw you cosying up with someone in the sea this morning?
I smiled, happy for her as she gave me a look, signalling to not mention the fact that it was a girl as Sydney was sitting right next to us and she doesn't know about Harper being a lesbian yet. Although, Sydney was hardly even listening and more interested in the song playing.
Sam : you looked happy.
Harper : I don't think it's going anywhere to be honest.
Sam : do you like them?
Harper : em yeah....ok, I think that's me done.
She lifted a mirror up to my face and I gasped at the stranger I was staring at. I placed a both hands on my face to make sure it was still me as I smiled. I actually looked decent.
Sam : I love it! Thank you!
Harper : I told you you'd like it!
Sam : it feels weird but it's nice aha
Harper : Sydney shut up!
I began hysterically laughing at Harper's forwardness at how annoying Sydney was being. Harper just rolled her eyes as Sydney continued singing.
Suddenly there was someone banging on the door so I went to go get it.
Harper : no doubt that's someone complaining about the dying cat noise in the room.
Syd gave her a look as I opened the door to find a boy in our year with his arms crossed, looking pretty pissed.
Boy : COULD YOU PLEASE TELL MISS FANGIRL OVER THERE TO SHUT HER FACE!!!
Sam : yeah, I'll mention it, sorry.
Boy : YOU BETTER!
Sam : I will.
Boy : GOOD!
Sam : good.
Boy : BYE!
Marcus : someone's got good music taste!
Suddenly Marcus and Martinus came strolling down the corridor towards us and to my surprise the boy that was shouting screamed and put his hands up to his mouth in pure shock.
Marcus : oh so it's you with the music?
Sam : actually no, it was Sydney's choice.
Marcus : oh.
I couldn't help but sense the sadness towards my reply, but also the way he was staring at me, trying to figure out what was different.
Boy : em, I-I was just gonna...um...I just wanted to say I love what you do!
I couldn't help but giggle at his hypocritical manner.
Martinus : thanks man!
The boy ran back to his room, screaming.
Sam : what are you doing here?
Martinus : we went for a little explore of the hotel but then heard the music so followed it.
Marcus : yup. Can we come in?
Sam : um...
I scanned my mind to try and remember if I had laid anything embarrassing on the floor like a bra. I decided that I hadn't so opened the door for them.
Martinus walked in first then as i held the door open for Marcus he looked at me once again.
Marcus : have you got makeup on?
Sam : um yeah...
Marcus : it looks good.
He smiled as he walked inside. I couldn't help but notice the fluttering feeling that took over my body at that moment.
