It's Been 84 Years. . .

The year was 1997. The 100 year old Rose Dawson was sitting in the front room practicing her pottery skills. She wanted to buy some more flowers so she was making some new pots. As she was doing this, she heard an interesting conversation on the television. She stopped what she was doing and made her way over to the television. Her granddaughter came over to assist her. "What is it grandma?" Lizzy asked her. "Will you turn that up, dear?" she asked her.

On television;

Reporter; Your expedition is at the center of a storm of controversy over salvage rights and even ethics. Many are calling you a grave robber.

Lovett; Nobody called the recovery of the artifacts from King Tut's tomb grave robbing. I have museum-trained experts here, making sure this stuff is preserved and catalogued properly. Look at this drawing, which was found today...

He paused

...a piece of paper that's been underwater for 84 years... and my team is able to preserve it intanct. Should this have remained unseen at the bottom of the ocean for eternity, when we can see it and enjoy it now...?

Rose grew shocked at what she was seeing. "I'll be god damned" she muttered. The picture was a drawing of her that Jack Dawson himself sketched of her the same night they hit the ice berg. There was a number to call if someone should know something about the diamonds whereabouts or anything else related to Titanic. After seeing her picture, she immediately picked up the phone.

Lovett; This is Brock Lovett. What can I do for you, Mrs. Calvert?

Rose; I was just wondering if you had found the "Heart of the Ocean" yet, Mr. Lovett.

Lovett; Alright. You have my attention, Rose. Can you tell me who the woman in the picture is?

Rose; Oh yes. The woman in the picture is me.

Lovett; Would you mind if we flew you here to get more information?

Rose; Not at all, Mr. Lovett.

With that, Rose hung up the phone. She immediately started packing. She packed her pictures, clothing, and anything else she felt she needed. She brought along her three gold fish and her pomeranian, Freddy. Soon enough, it was time to go. Her and Lizzy got onto a helicopter and made their way to the ship. It was time to tell her story.

~The Tale Of Titanic; On The Ship~

When the helicopter arrived to the ship, people were helping them get out of it. Rose handed over her things and then they helped her out. Lizzy and Rose took their things and made their way to a guest bedroom. Rose began to make herself at home. She placed her fish down, and then her pictures. When she finished, her and Lizzy went on to meet Lovett and his team in the room where they studied the ship that is Titanic.

Lovett; Are you ready to go back to Titanic, Rose?

He paused

Tell us, Rose.

Rose; It's been 84 years...

Lovett; Just tell us what you can--

Rose cut him off.

Rose; It's been 84 years... and I can still smell the fresh paint. The china had never been used. The sheets had never been slept in. Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams. And it was. It really was...

Rose began to tell her experience on the ship. Her story before she met Jack, and after she met him as well. She went through every last detail from the moment they stepped on the ship to the moment that her and Jack were stuck in the water.

Rose; Jack and I had been stuck in the ocean amongst hundreds of other passengers. It had been hours. I looked over at Jack and he had already left me. That was when I decided that it was also my time to go. What stopped me was when I closed my eyes I remembered a promise I made to Jack. I promised him I would go on to live, old and gray, and so I did. I was rescued moments later and taken to another ship where I told them my name was Rose Dawson. And that is when I began my new life without Cal. Without Jack. Only the memories and myself.

As Rose continued to tell her story, she began to realize that the past life she'd been living with Jack and their 3 children had all only been just a dream. It saddened her to know this, but she was able to smile to herself knowing he was still on her mind.

Rose; Can you exchange one life for another? A caterpillar turns into a butterfly. If a mindless insect can do it, why couldn't I? Was it any more unimaginable than the sinking of the Titanic?

Rose said this referring to taking Jack's last name in place of her own.

Bodine, a member of Lovett's team; We never found anything on Jack. There's no record of him at all.

Rose; No, there wouldn't be, would there? And I've never spoken of him until now, not to anyone. Not even your grandfather, Lizzy. A woman's heart is a deep ocean of secrets. But now you all know there was a man named Jack Dawson, and that he saved me, in every way that a person can be saved.

Rose paused.

I don't even have a picture of him. He exists now only in my memory.

After telling everyone her sad, true story, she noticed it was getting late and decided to go to bed. Lizzy wheeled her into her room and helped her into the bed. "Sleep well, Grandma." She said before leaving the room. Rose laid there, thinking of Jack. She closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Moments later she found herself aboard the Titanic once more. She saw Jack at the top of a flight of stairs. She was 17 again and so was he. She made her way up the stairs. He turned around to see her and they both smiled from ear to ear. He wrapped his arms around her and she wrapped hers around him. While staring into eachothers eyes, they moved closer and finally shared a deep, loving and long kiss hello. After 84 years, she had finally joined her lover for eternity.
