[No real page today--its being touched up. I'll have it posted by tomorrow. Until then, enjoy this!]

Not to be confused with

“The Making of: Adventure of a Lifetime” video.

I started Adventure of a Lifetime two years ago, back when the tour had started. I believe the band was a mere month into it when I had the idea to write about it. I’d been a bit late in following the tour, but I caught it in time.

So, I took my laptop out, thought of a title, some character names, and a way to start the story.

My first idea was that the friends’

school band and choir perform Hymn For The Weekend during a concert they put on  every year.

Chris Martin catches wind of this, and he decides to go and help out with their performance.

The school's vice principal appoints two helpers: Jade and Rylan. And after the week or so of practice, the concert is performed and their job is done. So of course, that would be the introduction to the tour itself.

As a reward for their hard work, Chris gets the band--and Phil and Dave Holmes--to agree to allow these two high-school freshmen to go on their tour.

And then I didn’t like that idea too much, so I trashed it,and started again. This time, the two have a new friend--his name was Nathan--and they’re sophomores, instead of freshmen.

Originally, Nathan was going to go on the tour with them, but I had decided they needed an inside-man to get homework and other school-related information. So, Nathan stayed, but still played a big role in the story.

So I liked this second version. It had a good balance of Jade’s home-life and the tour life. I had about thirteen pages done when my account was locked.

I had been moving at the time. Therefore, I had to move school districts. I couldn’t use my old Google Account to write anymore. I couldn’t do anything with the story I had anymore, so all of my work had been lost.

We went to a cookout somewhere around the middle of the summer. I’d spent the night at my grandparents’ house to help set up early, before everybody got there. We went to the store to buy steaks. And then we found 25-cent notebooks and comp books.

My grandma bought me a comp book. When we got back to the house, I took my pencil, sat in one of the swinging chairs, and began emptying my mind of ideas for the new story I would begin.

After a few ideas, I decided, Well, how about I make it like a journal, to log the whole thing? And that’s what I did. After I got a new Gmail to use, I restarted what I’d began at least a year ago.

I changed the whole beginning, so instead of having Chris show up to the school, I made a sort of fake-sweepstakes that offers an add-on to the tour. Jade (like me) had subscribed to the newsletter, so they chose a random email that was subscribed and it happened to be hers.

All of the things that happened that I didn’t include in the actual story would be breaking the news, getting ready for the tour, and a ton of other things. My first beginning I didn’t like--it was too long and included all (and more) I mentioned above. It just dragged the story out longer, and I actually got bored in writing it, so I scrapped that and made the beginning a little “explanation-day” before the actual tour, and then it starts.

As for the story of Quince, he was, of course, originally named Ryan. I changed it because I started to call Rylan Ryan and Ryan Rylan.

I'd always like Quince or Quinn for a name. I decided to rename him that, and they would call him Q occasionally.

At first, I didn't include Quince’s character, but I reminded myself I had other friends I'd take with me, so I chose one of my guy-friends to put into the story as a base for the character. He's not anything special to us--only a friend that I didn't ask permission to put in the story.

I'm sure he's fine with it, anyway. It's not as if I'm using his actual name.

I still write lots of ideas in that comp book. It's almost full. I bought another to write in when the first is filled. I numbered the pages in both and have a header thing on each page. I think I've spent more time doing that than I have actually writing in the things. I've been slower lately, as I've been working on other stories. But I have a page almost done.

    Coming soon.
