Olympiastadion

Berlin, Germany

Yesterday was quite exciting, let me say. The show went very well, pretty sure it raised tons and tons of money to go towards its purpose (I can't quite remember; I'll ask somebody later), and Rylan was super excited because Prince Harry did in fact show up--there was so much security, we were afraid that wearing just our passes wouldn't be enough, so we stayed close to the guys after the show. Whenever we're questioned by security or somebody else, they're almost always close enough to vouch for us, but last night they were everywhere, so we had to know where they'd be before they got there.

Sometimes we can pass for crew members, because we wear headsets and have radios on us a lot of the time, but we still have to wear our passes, and we're fairly short compared to everybody else.

We wear headsets and radios because we're often employed by a section of the crew to help with the show (like when I was in the ceiling putting up lights), so we have the radios to hear everybody and the headsets to talk to everybody without a radio, like the guys who do all of the magic to make the show sound even better. They all have headsets, because their hands are too busy flipping switches and pushing buttons.

I might have to get a job as part of this incredible crew. I've had plenty of experience already, so why not? Maybe when we job-shadow later in the year, I'll shadow one of the crew members (or all of them), if we're allowed.

We still get our lessons and work emailed to us, and I still talk with Writers' Club through Discord. We've all ditched Skype, finally. It surprisingly isn't overwhelming. We still have plenty of time to walk about the stadiums, help out some people, watch soundchecks, and hang out in the dressing room without work taking over our lives. Just earlier, I read through a whole lesson with Quince and Rylan (even though Quince isn't in our class period) and then did the paper with them.

The only problem with long-distance schooling is the fact that we're in a completely different timezone, so submitting work on the due date is usually difficult because it's often the day after it's actually due that we submit. And when it's due by a certain time... that's a whole other problem.

But we're keeping up quite well, and on the breaks between the tour, we don't struggle with going back. It's always great to go back home, see our families, friends, and teachers again. Except Mr. MacIntyre. He's quite the jerk, which is terrible because he kind of looks like Will, who is nothing like him. They're complete opposites yet look alike. I won't be surprised if I go back next break and call him Will.

When we come back from breaks, it's a bit chaotic, because we're all used to life back at home again, and our immunity to jetlag (there is no true immunity, you just get used to it) wears off, so we're all grumpy, tired, and feeling drowned.

Anyway, Germany! Have we been here before? I can't remember. I know we've been to the Netherlands, and Switzerland... no, we haven't been here yet. You see, this is what happens when you're everywhere around the world in a short time. You forget where you've been!

I'm excited for tonight's show, as always. But I'm dreading it a little, too, because the Xylobands haven't gotten here yet, and it almost always takes five hours to unpack them all and then make sure they all work. If that's not done before the show, there is no show.

Almost everything is ready to go. Short soundcheck for the acoustics and such will happen soon. The sound rigging seems to be working. Lights are wired. Lasers are ready. Pyro ready to ignite. Confetti cannons filled and dangerous. Literally. Earlier, while we were doing our lesson, one of the cannons loaded early went off somehow, and attacked four people walking down the runway. They're okay, but a lot of butterflies and strips were lost.
