SEVEN | Believe.
I stayed in the small, cramped room for a few days. In the past days Simba had been my company. She had told me where the kitchen, bathroom and storage room was. So now I was stocked up with enough juice boxes and saltine crackers to last a life time. Not to mention I had a few outfits that hadn't ran out yet.
Other than that, she brought me tea, fish food and sat with me for an hour every day. I had a suspicion that Norman had asked her to – as I hadn't seen him since I fled the lounge – but at the moment I didn't mind. I'd rather hole myself up in this room.
I also thought about leaving altogether but something urged me to stay. I didn't know what. No; that was a lie. I did know. Every time I closed my eyes my brain assaulted me with terrifying and vivid dreams of tarot cards dancing around and telling me to 'Awaken'. I don't know what I was supposed to awaken to but I had a feeling if I stuck around here I'd eventually get the answers I was looking for.
A knock at the door and I looked up as Simba walked in. Today, her blonde locks were pulled back into a classy bun and she wore a baby blue romper and today – just like every day before – she wore no shoes.
"Good morning Maeve," she greeted with a smile.
"Morning," was my reply.
I had woken up only twenty minutes ago in a cold sweat and my heart beating wildly. Another nightmare had pranced across my closed lids and I was still shaken up. This time, it was The Lovers, dancing around a pool screaming at me to awaken.
"Not a good morning?" she laughed handing me a saucer which held a cup of green tea.
I took it and shook my head. My eyes drifted to the cup where the green murky water showed my reflection back at me. Gone were the blue eyes altogether and in their place were silver orbs. Other than my eyes it seemed that the strange changes had halted altogether, as well as the end of my very first period.
"It's just silly dreams," I muttered taking a sip and looking back at her.
She frowned, her eyes growing with concern, "What type of dreams?"
"Just tarot cards tormenting me – honestly it's just silly," I laughed nervously realizing how ridiculous it sounded.
Her frown only deepened and in a quick retreat she left the room. Leaving me alone again with my thoughts. Not that I had to stay in here, I knew I could leave the room but I was so embarrassed at my own uselessness. And the mantra was so easy too.
Simply: Absorb within,
Recharge,
Relief upon almighty sin.
And my body began to heat up and tingle, my eyes growing wide as they sharpened. The cup fell from my hands, I spotted two glowing, sparkling silver orbs in its wake and the lights over me flickered once then died. A scream flew from my lips as the room plunged into complete darkness and I felt utterly stunned.
Had I done that?
"Impossible. I couldn't do it before," I whispered to myself.
The door was pushed open, and two fish made out of flames swam around me – plunging the room into a soft, orange layer. I looked up, Norman held the door with open – a large grin on his face as he looked completely stunned.
"All the powers out," he laughed excited, "you did it! Maybe you didn't say it clear enough last time, but that doesn't matter now does it, darling you are amazing."
