THIRTY ONE | Future.
Falling.
Falling into a mixture of bright lights.
It was so sudden I lost sense of Balfer and Nora – I lost sense of all that was around me. My mind desperately clung to reality but even that was a losing battle. I was so tired of losing battles- over and over again. Norman was the last straw.
I wanted to fight back.
The urge to use my magic against those who had wronged me tasted as good as sugar. I wanted them all to pay and I could. I could go up against Alistair and I could win. Becoming riled up, my magic swirled around me then surged. Cutting through the white light and clearing up my senses.
Looking around I found myself sitting on a sheet of snow, beside a ruined fountain. Thee ruined fountain. It seemed fate was constantly dragging me back to this fountain. Beside me, Nora laid on her back – her eyes completely white and Balfer was the same. Where they stuck in the same trap I was?
Worried, I moved forward – resting one hand on either of them I viciously shook. Slowly, they twitched back to reality. Nora sat up with a loud gasp. A hand clutching her chest as she panted for air. Balfer woke a few seconds later with a growl before shifting into the shape of a panther.
"It's ok boy," I soothed him, running my fingers through his fur.
He calmed, changing back to his original form, "Pi-Ku!"
"Father left a trap," Nora exclaimed grimly, "he prepared for if we escaped."
"You know that spell then?" I asked.
She nodded, "It's an evil spell that shuts off your mind. You see nothing, hear nothing – become nothing. It's easy to break once the mind awakes but can be lethal if attacked alone or on an entire group."
I felt sick, "H-He wants us dead."
She laughed bitterly, "Are you surprised? Come on, lead the way to your cove."
I was slightly hesitant.
"You're not going to hurt anyone are you?"
She snorted, "If I wished to do so, I would have let the vampires kill you."
Fair enough.
"Alrighty, let's go – oh gosh, I hope they're not too worried," I sighed standing and brushing snow off my body.
She followed my lead, her feet moving through the snow after me, "You're really close to your cove aren't you?"
I smiled slightly, "I hope so. My council means a lot to be – my cove does too. I hope in the future all witches can get along. White witches and dark witches. Deep witches, or whatever you guys call us. A world were there's no hurting."
"A fake world," she sneered.
I shrugged as the Wolf Cove came into view. Standing on the deck Havak, Henryson, Thomas, Claret, Wyren, Crow Aunt Rosaline and even Creed. The moment their eyes lay on me Henryson, Claret and Crow were bolting across the snow towards me.
"Mae!" Henryson cried wrapping his arms around me and pulling me into his chest.
The others joined the hug before I pulled away feeling warm inside. Havak however, instantly noticed Nora. He pulled me away from her before drawing a very strong, and unwavering borderline between us and her.
"Norlina Haze – how dare you show your face here!" Havak snarled, raising his hands to utter another spell.
Nora stood looking unsurprised as I was riddled with horror. I jumped from Claret's arms to shove Havak backwards.
