TEN | Truth.
A full month had gone by, and true to his word after lessons Norman took me to the library every single day. In a month I had learned multiple mantras such as the borderline, that one that made power go out, one to summon a storm, and finally one that can take pain away.
Now, it was finally the day to visit the Thyme Gate. From this morning's breakfast George had given me a chocolate bar as a treat and I was grateful to my friend. Even Simba had wished me luck today and I knew their faith in me would definitely help.
I couldn't help but feel completely giddy with excitement. We had all changed into a pair of boots, black leggings and a black tank top. I couldn't help but think Owen and Crow looked funny in their black leggings. Although, King had demanded Crow to take off his hoodie, now he stood with his eyes locked on the floor.
"Opening a gate is something you should never do mainly because it is entirely risky to do it alone. Once the gate is open we will step through one at a time, starting with myself so I can meet you on the other side. When going through a gate it's normal to feel nauseous, weak, and even dizzy. It is also normal to completely pass out. If that does happen then you will be taken back here and fail this exam," King paused to glance over at Norman before continuing, "I will explain more on the other side. For now we will begin."
I watched as King and Norman stood on either side of that black circle that was painted onto the ground. Their eyes glowed and shimmered as they held out their hands, speaking loudly,
"Through divine intentions,"
their voices were loud and strong as they spoke, a grumble below our feet and we let out a gasp as what felt like an earthquake shook beneath us,
"Spinning the wheel of fortune,
Ties of fate – I call forth Thyme Gate,"
In the middle of the circle, it seemed thick lush plants began to grow towards the ceiling. Instantly the smell of fresh grass and the tickling, sweet smell of pollen wafted around us. It seemed in some shocking way although the vines and plants emerged aggressively from the ground it didn't break through the stone, merely pushing through the cracks and gaps. I watched in astonishment as different plants and vines twirled and danced into the shape of a large, elegant arch.
"Allow passage and blessed travel,
Show thee!"
At the last words small, colourful wild flowers bloomed all over the gate. Wooden bars perked in the middle, in the shape of a door and as they finished their manta to summon the gate I noticed both King and Norman were breathing heavy. Sweat clung to their faces, and you could practically taste the magic in the air.
"One at a time follow me," King panted pushing open the gate and stepping through.
A blinding light spilled through as it opened and I shut my eyes to protect my sight. Peeling them open I watched as Amber went next, practically lunging through the gate, then Owen, Hannah and Crow followed. Finally it was my turn, I walked up to the gate, pausing to look at Norman.
"Are you coming too?" I asked.
He nodded, "The exam will be a difficult one. Just in case something were to happen both King and I will be there."
Something were to happen? Suddenly I was feeling very hesitant and nervous to this whole thing. It only now occurred to me those mantras were picked and taught to us on purpose. I bit my lip unsure.
