TWENTY SEVEN | Restored.
"So, so, so. Are you with Norman or that Henryson," mom asked as she shoveled eggs into her mouth.
I frowned deeply, "Henryson's just a friend."
She smirked knowingly, a piece of egg fell from her mouth, "So Norman is your boyfriend?"
I paused. He was...wasn't he? I know we had made that clear between us but with everything going on my heart just wasn't into it. Yet, I didn't want to hurt his feelings. Mom didn't seem to like this answer as she placed her fork down and stared at me. My cheeks burned from her gaze and I quickly looked away.
"What's going on baby?" she asked, placing her hand on mine.
My teeth dug into my bottom lip as I dragged my gaze back to her. Yuma might be my best friend but my mom would always be my number one. She was my first support and my last. My very best friend, my very best mentor and my mom.
"Norman and I titled our relationship a little while back," I said softly.
She clapped her hands together, smiling widely, "That's great!"
My shoulders shrugged, "With everything going on I don't think I'm ready for a relationship."
"Well, you did only have your first period only a few months ago," she smirked.
My face enflamed as my jaw dropped, "Mom!"
She giggled, looking over at the toad-witch, "Any love advice Richard?"
"I will consider this Lucy," the toad mused, stroking his toad chin.
"You're on first name basis now?" my question came out sharp, and was directed at the toad but mom replied with a kind smile.
"I figured he would be around for a while. There's no reason to make his life dreadful."
"Yes! I have much advice," the toad-witch – Richard cried, "Listen closely little witch. For my words will perhaps change your life for all of eternity. Yes, yes. Love is truly sophisticated and a wise art. An art you must take your time to learn and understand – I am practically an expert in such an affair. Before you take any leap of faith, remember to tie your shoes?"
I blinked.
Richard bowed slightly, "You. Are welcome."
"That was your advice?" I sighed deeply, "Don't quit your day job."
"Blasphemy!"
Although, he did make an excellent point before his crappy advice. Love is an art you must take your time to learn and understand. Maybe I was wrong to rush into anything with Norman. I needed to slow down – with life being so crazy right now I didn't want to rush anything. That wouldn't be fair to Norman either.
"Your eggs are getting cold my love," Mom giggled, pushing my plate closer to me.
I nodded, scooping them up onto my fork and eating quickly. There was so much to do and such little time. Not to mention I would be meeting up with Norman at lunch – rather he'd be coming over at noon.
Once breakfast was over with, Mom picked our plates up and pushed them into the dishwasher. She brushed the wrinkles off her scrubs then moved towards me. Placing her palms on either side of my face before pressing a sloppy kiss on my forehead.
"Mom!" I schreeched laughing.
She giggled, "Be good. I'll be back at the end of the week."
I nodded, "Bye Mom."
