What Is a Meme?

(Don't mind the picture, it has nothing to do with the story, I just thought it was funny)

"Steve, you gotta stay home. You can't come traveling right now," I chided as I rolled his wheelchair into our apartment.

"Why not? It's not like it's a mission," he whined.

"You know, you whining didn't work when we were kids and it doesn't work now. Cho told you to take it easy, so that's what you're gonna do. You're not going, and that's final!"

"You're an ass," he pouted, crossing his arms.

"I know," I chirped, giving him a peck on the forehead, "I'll be back by tomorrow at the latest, I promise. Call Clint or Tasha if you need anything," I called as I walked out the door.

Tony was waiting for me outside, seemingly listening in on our conversation, "How do you ever manage to win arguments with that guy?" Tony inquired.

"It's easy if you've been with him since the 1920's," I replied, walking down the hall.

"Well that doesn't help me!" Tony complained.

I laughed as he led me to the jet.

"Mr. Stark, can you teach me how to fly one of these?" A kid named Peter asked as he hopped into the co-pilot seat. Apparently this kid was a weirdo who can climb walls and shoot webs out of his wrists, at least that was the minuscule run down I got from Nat.

I decided now was the best time to ignore everyone and just read. Whatever they were about to start talking about was something sciencey that I don't understand. Amazingly, it passed time well because before I knew it, we were entering the borders of Wakanda.

                      ••••••••••••••

T'Challa and Nakia welcomed us when we landed. Peter hastily greeted the king and the soon to be queen before rushing into the palace.

"What's his deal?" I asked, rather confused.

"Shuri and him get along very well. They enjoy creating together in her lab," T'Challa replied in his thick accent, "but that is not important, you are here for an arm and what is Stark here for?"

"Personal business," Tony responded curtly.

"Ah yes, of course. Nakia? Can you show Sergeant Barnes to the lab please?"

His fiancee nodded, "follow me Sergeant Barnes, let us fix you again."

                        ••••••••••••••
Shuri's assistants shuffled around prepping certain things here and there, Peter was off playing with something that looked very dangerous, and Shuri was tapping away at a small tablet.

"Alright Sergeant Barnes-"

"Please, just call me James," I interrupted.

"Alright James, I need to have you lay face up on that table while I prepare your new arm," she said, walking me over to a part of the room, "Would you like to know the improvements that I made?"

"Sure," I shrugged.

"First of all, I made the touch function much better in this, more textures along with heat and cold will register now. Secondly, your arm had no weaponry aside from being metal, so I added an energy wave that builds up the more you hit things, so if you ever find yourself trapped, just strike something open handedly and the enemies around you will go flying back. Thirdly, I added better motor functionality, so you won't accidently damage anything you don't mean to. Lastly, if you wish, you can will your arm to grow a membrane around the metal that looks and feels like skin. It comes in handy for blending in or making you feel fully human."

"Wow..." was all I could say.

"I know right?" Peter exclaimed as he hung upside down from the ceiling, holding something that looked like a sword made of light, "it's so cool what she can do!"

"Peter, put the light saber away, you're going to get us in trouble again!" Shuri shouted, "Anyway, if you are ready, we can start the procedure."

"What the hell is a light saber?" I questioned.

Peter gasped and jumped down from the ceiling, "You don't know what a light saber is!?"

"No?"

"Do you even know what Star Wars is?" He practically shrieked.

"No," I replied again.

"Ooohhh, dude! I've gotta tell Mr. Stark. We need to catch you up on the modern world."

"Maybe start showing him memes? Or the internet in general?" Shuri suggested.

"The hell is a meme?" I muttered, glaring at no one in particular.

Shuri opened her mouth to say something but stopped and sighed, "I'll explain later. For now, let us replace this old tech with something better."

It didn't take as long as I expected and in less than an hour Shuri announced she was done. I swung my legs off the table and stood, rolling my shoulders.

She pressed a button on a table and a mirror rose from the floor, "Would you like to see your new arm?"

I walked over and took a look at the sleek silver metal appendage now hanging from my left shoulder. I lifted the new arm and wiggled my fingers, finding that it felt just as natural as my organic arm.

"How do I make the skin to appear?" I asked.

"Just think about it. However, I must warn that you shouldn't wear it while fighting, it will tear very easily just like real skin and you won't be able to use your energy pulse with the skin membrane on. It is more for spy missions or shopping trips."

I nodded and willed the membrane to cover my arm. I poked at my arm, the membrane felt like real skin and perfectly matched my skin tone.

"I should also mention, that this membrane has trillions of tiny sensors that act as nerve endings, so when you touch something, it should feel the same as if you were to touch that something with your right arm," she explained, tapping my arm, "However, since I know you are more reckless with that arm, you still do not feel pain."

I looked at my shoulder as one final check. The arm blended perfectly with my actual skin, you couldn't tell where the prosthetic ended and my real skin started.

"Thank you. This is more than I ever could have hoped for," I marveled.

"It's no problem, but your thanks is accepted," she said with a smile.

A beep came from above us. We turned to see Peter laying on the ceiling, looking at his watch.

"Mr. Stark says it's time to go," he called as he jumped down, "it was nice seeing you again Shuri."

"Like wise, Peter," she responded, hugging him.

He laughed awkwardly and I rolled my eyes. I grabbed him by his collar, "C'mon kid, let's go home."

Okay, I promise, you'll get more lovey dovey stuff between Steve and Bucky soon, but I'm just trying to take a little slow with them. Also, a possible famous Stark party coming up? Who knows!? You'll have to wait and find out! Byyyyyeeee!
