“There, finally finished. And it’s only…four in the afternoon.” I groaned a bit. It took me seven hours to pack. I am so lame. I was just about to change out of my clothes when the doorbell rang. I groaned again and exited my room to go downstairs. A minute later, I nearly ran into a man.

“Sorry!” I exclaimed, blushing faintly and looking down in embarrassment. The man just chuckled, making me look up. I gasped a bit, realizing it was one of the men who came to my house last night to help out with my mom.

“It’s no big deal, miss. Anyway, I just wanted to stop by to see how you were doing.” The man said softly, making me hear a slight Russian accent. I blushed again, not from embarrassment, but from his caring.

“It’s been…a long night and a long day.” I said after gazing at him like a total idiot.

“That I understand.” He smiled, making my hear flutter a bit. I’m acting like a total geek! I thought to myself.

“Well, since you stopped by, I never got your name.” I thanked the heavens that my voice didn’t betray any emotions that were bursting inside.

“I’m Jason, but everyone calls me Jace.” He flashed another smile at me. Goddess, he is adorable.

“Jace,” I repeated. “Nice to know, Jace.  I’m Sasha.” I flashed him a smile.

“Sasha.” He said slowly. I hate to admit it, but the way he said it sent a shiver down my spine.

“It is a very lovely name. Perfect for such a lovely young lady.” He chuckled a bit at my now apparent blushing.

“Why don’t you come inside?” I asked, stepping away from the door.

“No, that’s alright. I am actually on call right now at a house that is near you. I only stopped by to see how you were doing. So, I wish you a good rest of the day, Sasha.”

Then he went to the ambulance. He said, “Oh, and good luck in Russia” before winking and driving off. I stood in the doorway, my eyes wide with shock. How in the hell did he know that? I suddenly felt freaked out so I shut the door quickly. My heart was fluttering all over the place, apparently still remembering how my name sounded coming out of his mouth. I jumped and squealed lamely when I heard a soft caw of my crow, which had suddenly appeared on the chair.

God, what is wrong with me? I am freaking out so much right now. I stroked the top of its head softly before going up to my room to grab my phone.

Holy shit, six missed calls and three voicemails? I flipped it open and went through them. All but one was from an unknown number. The last one is from Sammy. I decided to call my voicemail and go through those messages. The first two are from the unknown number and in a foreign language. Great…delete. The last one was from Sammy, too. And the voicemail made me freeze.

“Okay Sasha, I know what you are. It’s hard for me to ignore it. I know I probably shouldn’t have called you, but I’m over at Chrissy’s. So here it goes. I’m sure your aunt Lacy has given you the note telling you about the Spiritias and the war that will be happening. I know this because I’m a Witch, too. But I’m a Guardian and I have been told by Lacy to protect you when you turn eighteen. I know you are feeling overwhelmed by all the information you have received, but you are a Spiritia. A Spiritia that is very vital to the war. I’ll come over later to talk to you about this. Oh, and one more thing: stay away from that Jason guy. He isn’t safe.”

Oh. My. Fucking. God. I dropped my phone when the voicemail ended. No. Hell no! Fuck no! My thoughts were jumbled. I felt sick with all this information. I shook my head and took a couple of deep breaths. There was no way my Sammy could be a Witch…
