Mike (Hanlon) POV

"Hurry the fuck up!" I spat towards Beverly, who has successfully purchased a pack of cigarettes from the corner store. He never knew how she did it, but would never end up getting caught in the process.

"I'm coming, Mike. Jesus." She rolled her eyes and tosses the box after taking out one for herself. She lights the tip, then also passing me lighter.

I take a inhale deeply, letting the tobacco fill my once healthy lungs. She does the same, awhile before beginning a conversation.

"I saw Richie." She starts. "Eddie was there too. Not a surprise, really."

"What did you say?" I asked, sitting down on an old and torn sofa. She still stands, breathing from the cigarette before blowing out, making a smoke cloud.

"The usual. Telling him to talk to me. Saying that consequences would be made if he didn't comply." She explains. "Why do you want me to tell you? It's literally always going to be the same thing because you keep telling me to say it."

"I'm just making sure. And I can tell when you're lying, so me asking will see if you are or not."

"I'm not stupid enough to lie in front of you." She scoffs.

"You've done it before." I say harshly.

"Since when?" She snarls.

"Like the time you lied about liking Richie??"

She tenses slightly, "I thought it was obvious."

"Then why did you lie about it?" I pried.

She stutters, not knowing how to respond. I roll my eyes, scoffing, "That's what I thought."

She storms out of the room, shutting the door behind her.

"Hey!" I yell. I shake my head looking out the dusty window from the abandoned apartment.

Beverly and I lived together here, us both having bad home lives. We found an old place to stay in, not having to stay with our families.

I have a part-time job at the corner store, in fact the same one beverly had just visited not too long earlier.

I have to support us, buying food, clothes, etc, so we have a somewhat healthy lifestyle. Well, niether of us would call it healthy at all.

I also get an employee discount at my job, so buying things from there is more convient. Also considering that it's not very far from the apartment.

But if I was ever caught trying to buy cigarettes there, I would definitely be fired due to my age. Which is why I send Bev instead.

I finished my cigarette some time later, tossing it to the floor and squishing the tip into the old wood.

I grunt, hopping off the sofa to continue my day.

Halloween night
Eddie POV

I knock on Mike's door, his mother greeting me moments later.

Mike and Richie came down the staircase with smiles on their faces, all dressed up in thier costumes.

"I love your costume Ed's." Richie smiles.

"Haha, same goes to you and Mike." I say.

It was 6:30pm, and Mikes parents were about to head out to take Holly Trick or Treating. "Okay, boys! We're heading out!" Karen calls from the front door, Holly eagerly wanting to go out and trick or treat. Ted holding Holly's hand, almost being dragged by holly.

"We will go trick-or-treating for a couple of hours, then head to Joyce's for the little halloween party she's throwing. Depending on how Holly's feeling, we might spend the night there. I'll call you once we know." Karen explains.

"Okay, bye mom." Mike says.

"Bye, boys." Both Ted and Karen says, Holly waving at us.

The door shuts behind them, Richie and I both glancing at Mike.

"Who's ready to throw a party?"
