Like I said before, no one dies, Vio didn't die, but nothing could match my terror at the moment that the one person I loved more than anything had been taken away from me, and I didn't know he was going to be alright. He didn't know either, but somehow he had faced what he thought was going to be his death with the calm persona he faced everything with. And in a way, that made it worse.
I was sitting in a bed, hugging my legs, pretty sure the love of my life died. The room I was in, was supposed to be my bedroom in their house, we had left the Fire Temple, I didn't remember much. But the room seemed barren and empty and I felt cold.
He couldn't actually be...
I heard someone knock on the door. I felt stupid being all alone in their house, they had been so kind to me. I felt like their kindness was about to end.
"Go away," I said to whoever was on the other side of the door.
"I'm coming in anyway," they said. I recognized the voice.
I faceplanted into the mattress, back to the door that creaked open.
"You were right, I had a concussion," Princess Zelda stated. "Like a really bad one, I tripped down the stairs somehow, and halfway through they stopped supporting me while I fell and just gave away, I fell a couple floors."
I looked at her in utter disbelief, that sounded painful.
"Heights don't scare me, but apparently a twenty-foot height can potentially kill me if my concussion goes untreated, it's a miracle I didn't break any bones." I felt the bed shift and the sudden weight by my feet, both a clear sign she sat down and probably wasn't going to leave for a bit. "Are you doing okay?"
"Are you doing okay, I wasn't the one to fall twenty feet down the stairs, jeez."
"I'm fine, a couple bruises, a scraped knee and a concussion, that's it. But...I heard you, taking with Vio...some of it."
I laughed and sat up. "I'm pathetic, aren't I?"
"He seriously loves you. They're...trying to revive him, his hearts started beating, but it keeps stopping and he's still bleeding a lot."
"You mean to tell me he might still live?"
"I'm saying he has a chance. It's slim, but it's a chance. He actually...spoke a bit before his heart stopped again."
"Do you think he's in pain?"
"What?"
"Do you think it hurts? You said his heart keeps stopping, do you think he feels it stop, do you think it's painful."
"Again, he spoke a bit. He told me the only thing that brought him pain was the idea of not being able to hold you again."
I smiled but tried to hide it.
"He asked me to...make sure you don't do anything stupid and to keep you updated on his condition. He also mentioned a little about what you guys talked about...and then we all heard a little of what you said."
"What exactly did you hear?"
"Just you telling him how much you loved him."
I blushed immediately. "Goddesses, that's embarrassing."
"Yeah, I bet it is. But...you look so happy together. I'm sure he'll be okay."
I sighed and laid down. Zelda stood up. "As he told me to keep you updated on his condition, I should make sure I'm aware of his condition and go back. I'll come back soon. And Shadow?"
I looked back up at her.
She smiled softly. "Eveerything is going to be okay."
And with that, Zelda left me alone in a room that felt a little less empty.
