"Vio!"
I had shouted his name before I could stop myself, and before I knew it, I was on my knees next to him, hands cupping his cheeks. He looked pale, way too pale, I didn't like it.
"Vio, please answer me, are you okay?" I could just barely feel his breath on my hand, barely noticeable, but at least it was there, at least he was there. "Vio?"
His eyes cracked open, but they weren't even open halfway. He was looking at me and he opened his mouth to speak, but closed it for some reason. And then his eyes shut but when I moved my hand off of his cheek, his hand grabbed onto it.
I squeezed his hand.
"He was already injured, to begin with, but I don't think that fall did any more damage," Zelda said. "I think he's just a little weak and a little tired."
"Too tired to talk?" I traced his lips with one of my fingers before I could stop myself. I felt his lips curve into a smile; they were soft and warm, I noticed.
"I don't know, I'm not a doctor, I just know he's still breathing...You're still breathing right, Vio?"
Vio nodded, just raised his chin a little and then let it fall.
"Yeah, he's breathing."
I pulled my fingers away from his face, kinda realizing that was weird. Vio made some irritated sounding noise and grabbed one of my hands, bringing it back to his mouth. When his hand dropped, I kept my fingers there.
"Geez, what happened?"
"I think the entire building we're in is older than we thought, the structure might be unstable, one of the floors collapsed." Zelda paused. "We need to get out of here before another floor collapses."
"Why aren't there any exits?" I asked. "We've been here for hours, there aren't any exits, I can't even figure out where we came in from."
Vio squirmed on the floor. I ran my fingers through his hair and he calmed down. He opened his eyes again. "Hey, Vi."
He smiled a bit. "Shadow..."
"Everything okay, angel?"
He shook his head. "Shadow, there's--" He groaned in pain and didn't finish, closing his eyes again.
"It's okay, Vi."
"Shadow?"
"Yeah, love?"
"I love you."
It was only a mumble, his words were slightly slurred, and he didn't seem conscious that he just said it. I felt myself smile. "I love you too, Vio."
"Daww..."
"That is so gay," Blue said. "And so sweet."
"I ship it," said Zelda.
I looked at my Vio's sleeping features, all calm, like everything was okay. I wanted everything to be okay.
And for a minute, I believed everything would be okay.
