song for chapter: can i be him- james arthur

|two weeks later|
malia's pov

my hand started rubbing my arms together, trying to warm myself up.

nothing has changed; typical.
it's not like anything is going to change anymore.

it's currently two a.m in the morning.

what am i doing outside?

not trying to be stuck in a small room, that's for sure.

i've been out here for like twenty minutes now.

my phone rang from a text notification.

i pulled my phone out of my back pocket and read the text message.

2:21a.m
issac: are you awake?

what does he want?

2:22a.m
me: mhm

2:24a.m
issac: i'm going back to massachusetts tonight. can i see you to say goodbye

oh.

2:26a.m
me: i'm at the park nearest to college. come now

2:28a.m
issac: ight i'm on my way.

he now lives in massachusetts ever since he graduated high school.

his mom lives there so that's what makes him happy, to see her everyday.

i totally forgot about my mother. she's still here. i need to visit her soon.

letting myself zone out, i stared at the sky.

this routine of not having anyone to talk to, i've gotten more than use to it.

reminds me a lot of new york.

who is issac truly you may ask?

back in arizona, the old old days, me and him were bestfriends.

we both caught feelings for each other in eighth grade but it was going to be useless because i was already about to move to california that summer.

so we drifted apart to get rid of those feelings, both agreed to do so.

turns out, he moved to new york in sophomore year.
then i moved to new york in senior year.

we both remembered each other and it's like all those feelings came back.

"hey there," someone said, causing me to snap back in reality.

woah, i zoned out long.

"hi," i said quietly while turning around on the bench to see issac standing there with his hands in his hoodie.

"why don't you have a jacket?" he asked since it's pretty cold out here.

i shrugged; not really caring, "laundry."
