You were in detention. No, nothing for anything bad, you were friends with Michelle, or MJ. After school, she like coming here to draw people in their misery, she got great satisfaction from that. You were here because of two things. One, MJ was here. And two, it was nice and quiet, a perfect place to read other, even better than the library, contrary to popular opinion. The library was too... public for you. A lot of people were there, and yes even if they were studying, they were usually studying with people, and that meant talking. So you were always so willing to come to detention as it was quiet.
However, you already knew that today was going to be a little different. First, MJ wasn't here and you had no clue where she was. You had seen her during lunch so you had assumed that she would be here. After all, you just started assuming that if she was here during lunch, she would be here during detention. Well, you know what they say, never assume things. Anyway, second of all, Peter Parker was here, which probably meant that you wouldn't be reading today.
It wasn't that you hated Peter or anything, it was that he was so peppy and upbeat all the time during school, even if he was tired, so upbeat that sometimes
you wondered if he was human. He was also the type of person who talked. A lot. You knew this from personal experience, from a very tortuous 3 months of sitting next to him in the back in English, a time when you would usually be reading, but you couldn't with Peter.
So when detention started, and you realized that you and Peter were the only two students there, you were very glad that you were sitting in the back corner. Hopefully you had gained camouflage powers when reading, so when Peter looked around bored (which you knew he would do eventually) he couldn't see you. Again, unfortunately for you, (someone did not want you to finish that book right then) you had not gained any powers, and you could fell Peter's stare on you once he realized you were there. It felt like a mild burn in the inside of you head from knowing he was staring at you while you were reading for almost 10 minutes, he was conflicted if he should approach you or not, seeing how you were very engrossed in a book right then.
Please actually be nice right now and have manners so you can leave me alone, you thought, praying inside which distracted you from the book. It didn't matter to much that you had skipped a section as this was your 7th time reading Y/F/B, and hopefully, no else had noticed that. But Peter apparently, was very observant during his encounters with you, as soon as he looked at the book, he realized, ready to talk to you without feeling guilty of stopping you fro reading, as he knew you had ready this many times before.
"So...what are you reading? I know that book must be good, as you've read it multiple time now" Peter asked, at least he was talking to you about something you knew and liked, but still you didn't want to deal with this right now.
"Just 101 ways to get out of a conversation" you replied, hoping that Peter would get the hint. Apparently, but was possible for a person to be both observant and oblivious, as Peter just continued trying to carry the conversation.
"What types of books to you like to read? I've been looking for some new ones" Peter said, smiling as you groaned at the fact that you had to be social for once. But if you weren't going to be reading, you could at least do the next best thing, talk about reading. And so thats what you did. Turns out, yes Peter is talkative and somethings to chirpy for you own good, but apparently you still had stuff in common. You both liked the same types of books, and he had some comics that you had spent a considerable time looking for to read.
Maybe being social wasn't so bad after all.
