You still remembered the first glimpse of New York you got. You thought you were prepared, as you had seen photos, and told yourself like it was just like a major city in the world. Oh boy, were you wrong. The feeling of New York was not like anything you were ready for.
Your school had decided to take part of a international student exchange. You were able to choose the country, and you chose the U.S. sole based on the fact the Avengers were there. Unfortunately you couldn't choose the city, so while you were waiting for the name of your new high school, you spent that time convincing yourself that at least you were in the U.S. and that it was enough for you. Unfortunately that didn't work, but in the end it didn't matter because you got assigned to a high school in New York of all places.
So here you were now, in New York a couple of weeks later for your first day of school. Already you knew you would like it here, apparently this school was very science and tech focused, and most schools weren't, which was actually perfect for you because you wanted to go to into physics. Your classes were interesting to say the least, instead of teachers moving from class to class, the students were the ones moving. It was also really nice that no one had to wear a uniform. The classes themselves were interesting, even if it was a little awkward because you didn't talk to anyone.
But the lunch came, and you were panicking a little. You had gone through the lunch line and survived on how to pay based on watching other people and how they did it. Once that was completed, you looked around, not knowing where to sit as every table seemed to be completely full and everyone was talking ti everyone. Every table, but one it seemed. There was one table where there were only two boys, and you recognized one of them from one of your classes earlier.
"Hello, can I sit here?" You asked, trying to speak as well as you could, you relaxed and sat down, once they both nodded, glad that you finally had a place to sit. "Y/N right?" One of the boys said, you vaguely remembering him saying he was Ned during attendance. Nodding you asked "It's Ned right?", "Yup, and this is Peter" he said, gesturing to the boy next to him who waved at you.
"So how do you like Midtown High?" Peter asked, curious about your thoughts. "Its really nice! You guys have a lot of technology, which is really cool considering the fact its seems to be the latest models!" You said, really recited about that. The fact that technology was used so much in the classroom, was an interesting way to learn, and class went really smoothly except when the technology messed up. You wrinkled your nose at that thought, remembering what happened just last period. Ned and Peter noticed that, asking you whats wrong. "Oh nothing its just that last period, the... shit whats it called messed up" you got frustrated, not remembering the. English word for mouse.
"There's is a thing called 'shit whats it called'" asked Ned, directing the question to Peter, as he was completed confused. "I don't think thats the case Ned" Peter explained, looking at you for confirmation, "I know what it is, I just don't know the English word for it. The thing that broke was the thingamajig attached to the computer" you said, getting annoyed and trying to make hand gestures that looked like the computer mouse. Ned and Peter looked at each other, trying to figure it out, and got startled when you shouted "Ooh! I know its called at rat...?" You trailed off, realizing that it didn't sound right.
"A mouse you mean?" Asked Peter and Ned, their faces a lot less confused now. "I think so, yeah" you said, getting embraced that you didn't remember some words on your first day already. You buried your head in your hands mumbling "I don't know how I'm going to survive an entire year in America". When you felt a hand on your shoulder, you looked up to see Peter comforting you, "Don't worry Y/N, will we be your walking dictionary". At that, at three of you started laughing, imagining Peter and Ned dressed up as dictionaries. Maybe you could survive the entire year.
