I felt my jaw drop. My heart was pounding so fast. Did she just say what I think she said?
"The...what pack?" I stutter.
"The Death Riders pack. Why do you sound so upset?" She asks.
"They killed my mother; Jared's mother. And we have one prisoner, who attacked my pack. Almost killed two pack members, including me." I say through gritted teeth. My fist clenches up. She looks surprised.
"Oh my god. Sabrina, I'm so sorry." She puts her hand up the her mouth, a tear drips down her cheek. 'They killed aunt Stacy? What about uncle Luke?"
"Suicide. This is what your friends did."
"By any chance, is the wolfs name Iren?"
I nod.
"Oh god. That's the beta. He's a big trouble maker of the pack. I don't even know why Jones keeps him around. Should I tell Alpha Jones to do something about him?"
Again I nod. Jared comes up and wraps his hand around my waist.
"Is everything okay? You've been up here a while." He says.
"Yeah, everything's fine. This is my cousin Kaylee."
Kaylee extends her hand for Jared to shake. Cautiously, he takes it.
"Hi, I'm Kaylee. I'm from-" she pauses. She looks at me and I give a slight nod. "The Death Riders pack" she mumbles. I feel Jared go rigid.
"I'm so sorry for what they did. Sab said it was okay for me to talk to Alpha Jones about it." She rambles. Another lady walks in the door and Kaylee straightens. "Okay, thank you, Miss. Someone will be with you shortly."
"Thank you" I say. Before I leave, she mouths a quick 'He's cute' followed by a giggle. I smile as I sit between Jared an Kerren. My werewolf hearing allows me to hear the two girls from earlier talking about me again. I grab Kerrens hand and snuggle up to Jared, just to creep them out. They gasp and stare.
"Can I help you?" I ask politely.
"Uh, no. Sorry." Says one girl. They both blush and look away. I sneak a glance at Kaylee, who is trying to hide her amusement by busying herself with the new lady.
All of a sudden, Jared straightens, and shoots a menacing look at Kerren.
"Can you please keep your snide comments to your self? Or do I have to beat them in?" He snaps. Several people look our way, then turn. Kerrens grip on my hand tightens, and it hurts so much it makes Jared wince. He really does feel my pain. Jared lets off a small growl, and Kerren let's up on my flattened fingers. The door to the GYN wing opens and a woman about 45 comes in. She has blonde hair and is wearing a doctors coat. She looks very familiar. Where did I see her before?
"Sabrina Marie Ann Yeller?" She calls.
"That's me." I say. I get up (more like attempt before Jared helps me) and wobble to the door.
"Ann?" Jared asks.
"Yeah, I have two middle names. Don't judge!" I reply.
We follow the doctor down the hall and to the right. She lays me down on the table and sits in a chair. Jared sits in the chair next to me and Kerren leans against the wall behind him. We are all facing the doctor.
"So, Miss. Yeller, how far along are you?" She asks.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." I sighed.
"Try me." She says, snapping on a white, latex glove. I look at Jared, who nods.
"I'm two weeks."
I'm expecting her to laugh and say 'No, really, how far are you?'. But instead, she says,
"Oh. Okay, well, that means you're due soon." She sits on the chair on the other side of the bed, next to the monitor.
"What? You aren't shocked?" I certainly am.
"Oh, no. You thought I was human? No. In fact, I'm actually apart of your pack."
"Huh, no shit, um, crap. Sorry."
"Oh, I don't mind." She lifts my shirt, exposing my swollen belly. It looks like I just came back from thanksgiving with my family. Oh. My family. That's right. I'm shocked out of my thoughts by an ice cold gel that the doctor just put on my stomach.
"Uh, what's your name?" I ask.
"My names Kara. I'm Glenn's sister, Kelleys mother. I believe you know her. I'm the one that came to check on everybody after Iren attacked, remember?"
Oh! So that's where I know her from.
"I do now" I say.
She put a thick piece of plastic over my stomach and started to move it around. Then, I saw pictures on the screen. I was looking at my baby!
"That's the feet," she said. She moved it around. "And there's the head!" I looked at Jared, who had a giant smile on his face. "Oh my." Kara said.
"What is it? Is something wrong?" I started to panic and Jared put his hand in mine for comfort.
"Oh no. Everything's perfectly fine." She laughed. "But, you're having twins!"
My jaw fell. Then, I've smiled bigger than I ever had before. Twins! Isn't it wonderful. I looked at Jared again, who had a tear in his eye.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
"Twins." Was all he could manage. I guess he's pretty happy too.
"Kerren, what do you think?" I ask. I looked over at Kerren, saw him hunched over, open mouthed, and staring at the screen.
"You ate two people?" He asked, dumbfounded.
"Dumb ass" I muttered.
"Would you like to know the sex?" Kara asked. I looked at Jared.
"Should we wait?" I ask.
"Yeah. Let it be a surprise." He said.
"Okay." Kara said. We heard a printing sound, and Kara got up. She went over to her desk, grabbed something, and came back. "Here you go."
I grabbed the piece of paper from her. It was a picture of my children. It was their first picture. I started to cry.
"Is everything alright?" Kara asked. I nodded and put my hand to my mouth. I was going to be a mother. Not just any mother; a mother of twins.
Just then, Jared fell out of the chair, and dropped to one knee.
"Sabrina Marie Ann Yeller," he said, putting emphasis on Ann. "We haven't been together long, but it feels like forever. You are my mate, my soul mate." He reaches in his pocket and pulls out a small box. "I love you more than anything and will give my life for you. Will you marry me?" He opens the box, revealing a silver ring with one big diamond and two small diamonds on either side.
I am at loss for words. I'm sitting there, staring at him, while he waits for an answer. I already know my answer, I just can't find the word. Finally, my mouth forms the word I want to say.
"No."
