The dance starts in an hour. I pulled my dress out of my closet and froze. I haven't been in school. I missed the last three days. Why is this just occurring to me now? It's been two and a half weeks. I shake it off and continue to lay my dress on the bed.
My hair is silky smooth from the shower I had today. As I sit there brushing it, it occurs to me why I just thought of school. It's because it has almost been a month since me and Jared started going out. June 23 is our anniversary. It's July 10, today. Wow, it's been that long?
I throw my hair up into a beautiful French braid bun, which took me ten minutes to do. Then, I started to do my make up. I applied light pink lipgloss, just enough to make my lips sparkle without too much color.
Then, I applied some dark brown eye shadow. Not too dark, but still goes with the dress. Next was the mascara. I always have to be careful with my left eye; for some reason, those eyelashes love to clump up on me for no reason. That's why I don't usually wear makeup.
Finally, I put on a pair of earrings and a heart-shaped necklace. My engagement ring is already on. Smiling at myself in the mirror, I get up and go to the dress.
It was such a pretty dress. I'm going to enjoy it when I don't have kids in my stomach. I slip on the dress with no difficulty; it stretches! It does reach my ankles, just like I thought. Man I have good intuition.
I get on my hands and knees in front of my half of the closet and dig for the perfect pair of shoes. Finally, after digging through boots, sneakers, and heels, I fight the right pair. They're black stilettos that wrap around the ankle. By the time I get them on and strapped, the party is starting.
I stand and look at myself in the full-body mirror. I look really pretty, with the exception of my stomach. After a few seconds of staring at myself, I feel a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist, under my swollen stomach. I smile and look at Jared in the mirror.
"My family." I say, holding my stomach with one hand, and Jared's cheek with the other.
"You look stunning." He smiles, starting to kiss my neck.
"I love you more and more each day." I smile.
"I love you more than you can imagine." He replies. "You ready?"
"Yeah. Hey, what do you think for baby names?" I ask as we walk down the hall.
"Umm, how about Clara and Marie if they're girls, and Tyler and Kyle if they're boys?" He suggests.
"I like Clara. That was one of my choices. But I think Tyler and Jessie are cool. I don't really like the name Kyle. Marie's pretty though."
"How about this. Clara and Marie if they're girls, Tyler and Jessie if they're boys, and Clara and Tyler if they're a boy and girl?" He asks.
"Yeah, I like that." Smiling, I grab his hand. Finally, we reach the courtyard.
The court yard is beautiful. There are lights hug up in the trees, strung up on the door, everywhere. Somewhere, somebody has a radio playing music. Over to the right, there is a tent with benches, food, and drink underneath.
"Wow." I gasp. "Did you guys do all this is an hour?"
"Yeah. Most of the pack pitched in. Everyone from the pack is here, even the people who live alone."
Dylan and Kelley walk up to us, Kelley a little slower than Dylan.
"Hey guys." Dylan greets.
"Hey." I say.
"What's up?" Jared asks.
"Nothing. We just wanted to say congratulations." Dylan says.
"Oh, why thank you, kind sir and Madame." I joke, giving a little curtesy. They laughs.
"Why, Sabrina. You look ravishing this evening. May I steal you for a dance?" Dylan bows with his hand out. I look at Jared, who gives a small nod.
"You may." I grab his hand and he leads me out to the dance floor, which is just the stone patio. The DJ, who happens to be Terry, puts on a slow song. Then, he grabs Fionna and they dance beautifully. Dylan and I start to rock back and forth, dancing slowly. A few minutes later, Kerren comes over and taps Dylan's shoulder.
"May I have a turn?" He asks.
"You may." Dylan replies.
"What am I, the new toy?" I snap.
"Yes." Kerren says as he grabs my hand and starts to twirl me. Well, then. We start to slow dance as he looks down at me. "I hear you made Emilie and I your god parents."
"Well, for me, yes. I don't know who Jared chose." I just realized that. I also just realized that I had no idea who the new beta was. I know that my dad was, but he's gone. Pain struck my chest as I remembered what happened.
"You okay?"
"Yeah. Do you know who the new beta is?"
"I'm afraid not."
"Okay."
Jared comes up next, and taps Kerrens shoulder. Kerren leaves and Jared takes his place.
"Jared?." I begin. "Who's the new beta?"
"Ahh, so that's why you were upset. Dylan is." He replied.
"Oh ok." I said. I laid my head in his chest as we danced to the same slow song. Wow. Three people danced with me in one song. It's funny; I've never been asked to dance before this. I mean, yeah, I've danced, but no ones ever asked me.
I pick my head up and look around. All the guys are wearing some wort of suit or tuxedo, while all the girls are wearing beautiful, flowing colored dresses. This dance is so extravagant, it almost scared me. The song ends and Terry picks up the microphone.
"Ladies and Gentleman!" he begins. We all stop dancing and look toward him. "It is an honor to have the whole pack here. Will you please join me in a meal with the Alpha and his new Luna!"
Everyone claps and Jared takes my hand. We lead the march to the tables for food. I sit down and wait for everyone to get their food before me. While I'm wait, Kelley comes up to me.
"Hey, Sabrina." She says.
"Oh hi. How's it going?" I ask.
"Pretty good, how about you?"
"Good. Can I help you with something or do you just want to talk?"
"Believe it or not, I actually came to apologize for how I acted toward you earlier. Everyone was fighting for Jared's attention and-"
"It's okay." I say, stopping her short. "I understand. We cool?"
"Yeah" she says smiling. "We're cool."
Soon, everyone's plate is filled and Jared and I got up to get some food of our own. Well, I waddled.
Up at the food table, there were deviled eggs, BBQ chicken, steak, pork, salad, potato salad, tuna casserole, bread & butter, and pasta. I had some steak, some deviled eggs, pasta, potato salad, and some tuna casserole. When I sat back down, Jared looked at me.
"What?" I asked. "I'm hungry."
"I didn't say anything." he says, putting his hands up in defense. Dylan gets up and stands on his chair. Every goes silent.
"Before we start eating, I would like to say a toast. Here's to Luna Sabrina, and Alpha Jared. May you have a happy marriage, and healthy children! To Jared and Sabrina!" He exclaims, holding up his glass.
"To Jared and Sabrina!" Everyone says in one big chorus. They all hold up their glasses, clink them, then drink. This is going to be a wonderful night.
