Chapter 4

I have to keep my mouth closed. Is Joe her brother? I look from Zoe to Joe. They look kind of similar in some way. Then I realize why Lia looked so surprised when I told her I didn't know him. I could have known it, they have the same surnames, but I'd never thought about their surnames. I'm so stupid. Joe walks towards me. "Hi Kayla, Zoe told me about you!"

I'm still thinking about the conversations with Lia, a lot things make sense now. "Are you still in shock of seeing me in person?" Joe laughs and now I realize I said nothing since he came in.

"O.. Uh no.. Hi." I say quickly. I probably looked really silly because Zoe starts laughing about my little struggle and I can feel my cheeks turn red. I look to the ground to hide it. Then I look back at Joe because he starts talking. "I'm used to it." He winks and I study his face. His eyes are standing happy and his smile is big. He runs his hand through his brown hair while he turns around to Zoe.

"Do you have some food? I'm starving!" He asks when he is fully turned around. Zoe nods. He start walking to the kitchen till Zoe nods her head quickly in my direction as a sign. Joe quickly reacts to that so he asks me; "Do you want some too?" I shake my head slowly while I still try to hide my embarrassment from what just happened. Joe's still looking in my direction and is obviously waiting for me to say something what makes more sense. "I've just had dinner." I say and he's okay with that answer because he walks to the kitchen to get some food for himself. When Joe is out of our sight, Zoe start running towards me. "Don't. Say. A. Single. Word." I say quickly and Zoe starts giggling.

I have to call Lia about this all, about the situation, about Joe, because I know she wants to know it so bad, and I want to tell her. "Hi?" I hear Lia answering the phone. The connection isn't too bad but I almost can't make words of the sound what's coming out of my phone. "Lia, I just figured out Joe is Zoe's brother. He is.." She cuts me off when I'm mid sentence. "You are the worst. Did you seriously not know that?!" She laughs and I roll my eyes, although I know she can't see it. "I know, I'm slow, but he's here, now, in this house. He has to stay in Zoe's house for a while, because some guys are building in his, and Caspar's house or something and they don't want to live there then. And he is here. And he will stay here, and I'll see him a lot when I'm here, and..." I hear a weird noise. "Lia? What was that noise?" I ask but she doesn't answer my question. "Wow, uh give him my number! Or, ask him to follow me on Twitter. Or..." I understand where she's up to. "Stop!" I cut her off. "I'm not going to do anything of that! I've just met him.."

I'm calling in the hall of Zoe's house, with the excuse I had to call my parents back. "I have to go now, I just wanted to tell you this." I hear Zoe laughing, so they are luckily not waiting for me or even worse, listening to me. "You have to tell me all the details tomorrow!" We said goodbye and I walk back to the living room, where Joe and Zoe are sitting on the couch. "And?" Zoe asks when I face her. "Nothing special."

"O no, I've totally forgotten about the time! It's 1 am already! I have to go home." I look through the window and sight when I see it's dark outside. What did I even expect to see? "It's bloody dark. That's quite annoying." I get off the couch as sign I'm going. "I can bring you home if you want?" Joe asks when Zoe punches him against his arm. "I guess this time isn't the best time for someone like you to walk home yourself." He continues when I say nothing. I nod my head slowly. I just met him. I doubt if I trust him, but it's Zoe's brother so he will be nice. I don't like meeting new people because it always turns out awkward. But I think it isn't really save to walk outside alone at this time. "Yes please, if you don't mind?" I smile to him, I don't know exactly what to say. I want to say something but I'm not sure if it's weird to say or not. It's really sweet of him, wanting to bring me home. We walk to the front door. Zoe opens the door and waits for Joe to enter. Zoe hugs him when he passes and I can hear her whisper something. Zoe walks to me and hugs me too. "It was fun! We should do this more often." I nod quickly and smile. "I totally agree." Joe turns around and winks quickly to Zoe. He puts his hand on my lower back and pushes me gently forwards. "Bye Zoe!" We leave the house.
