I noticed him at first because of the beautiful curls spilling over his head. Then I saw his face and I thought I was falling in love with a stranger, right here in the middle of Dollar Tree. He looked over his shoulder and caught me staring at him. A rush of heat ran over my face. I looked away so quick, I almost snapped my neck. I was so lost in thought that I forgot my job and looked down at the boxes I was pulling things from to set on shelves. When I looked back, the curly haired cutie was walking out of the door. I smiled to myself slightly and tried shaking his face from my memory, knowing damn well it would still be there later.
I was off today and decided I wasn't leaving my apartment for anything but checking the mail. I slipped on some flats and began my journey down seven flights of stairs because the elevator is broken. I walked into the mail room and could not believe what I was seeing. I thought my eyes were deceiving me. Curly Haired Cutie was standing in front me and only a few steps away from my box. I steadied my breathing and walked over to retrieve my mail, pretending not to acknowledge the slender man standing two feet away. I felt a pair of eyes on me before a deep voice spoke up, "Hey," was all this guy said as he left. "He said 'hey' to me. He said 'hey' to me." ran through my head all day while I cleaned my apartment and showered.
The next day, I go into work and I get stuck at the register. Anytime, someone passes the windows or the bell above the door rings, I look up, just to check if it's the Curly Haired Cutie. All day long and no Cutie, as sad as I was, I lost all hope that he would show up today. As I was closing down my register, about twenty minutes before close, the bell rings and I greet the person without turning toward them. I hear, "Hey," behind me and my eyes widen as I turn around slowly. There he is, with a figurative glowing light around him, the Curly Haired Cutie. "Sorry it's so close to you guys closing, I just came by the get some milk." He spoke with a smile. "Oh, it's really okay. no biggie." I smile back and put his milk in a bag. He waved back at me as he walked from the store with a smile.
Going home that night, he was the only thing I could think about. I had to know who this guy was. What was his name? I didn't even know that about him. I walk into the mail room and notice there's no one else in there. I go through my mail over the trashcan, throwing away things that don't matter. Out of the corner of my eye, I see someone come in and look up. Curly Haired Cutie walks over, "We have got to stop meeting like this." I smile at him, "I know, how's coffee sound?" He asks and I nod, introducing myself. "Otto," He smiles and puts his hand for me to shake, I take his hand in mine and give one single shake, "Nice to meet you, Cutie." I tell him before heading for the exit. "Oh, hey," I turn to him, "I'm on the seventh floor, apartment C." I smile and head out. 'I finally know him.' I think to myself as mentally prepare for the date.
