"Excuse me?" The nurse turned and looked at him surprised (he had been asleep when she walked in but the smallest of noises woke him up now) "Can I have a pen and some paper please?"
"What for?"
Nosey cow "I want to write a letter, to my fiancé"
She raised her eyebrows "is that the pretty girl that always is in here on the dot when visiting hours start and only leaves when they close?"
He laughed but resulted in coughing "yeah that would be her"
"Oh course" she paused before she walked out the door "She's lucky to have you in a twisted way but that's how true love works"
"Twisted, that's for sure" I muttered under my breath
"Stop that" the nurse was back with my requirements and was batting at my hands that I hadn't even noticed but were scratching all up my arms
"Sorry and thank you" I smiled at the African woman and she left
I uncapped the black pen and started to write on the blank sheets in front of me
I wrote for hours but couldn't get all of what I wanted to say down onto the paper in front of me.

I finished the letter the next day and wrote her a poem by the next, but I was extremely weak and handed the pieces of paper to the nurse, who I'd learnt name was Mary, and told her to get them to her no matter what, I asked it as my dying wish at which she laughed at my dramatic-ness but held sincerity behind her eyes.
I'm glad I could make the old woman laugh that night for it was the last angelic thing I heard before I fell into a deep slumber.
