Why does everyone love Hela? I don't understand the appreciation for her?

Is it because she's the first female villain we get in the MCU? Because like, she's like every other villain? She literally took over Asgard just because she could. Yeah, there was the whole her getting revenge because Odin betrayed her and whatnot but like, she was doing it back then just because she could as well.

There's no real motive. No depth to her character. Nothing. Yeah she's a cool character and she got some decent lines but not enough for people to be so in love with her?

Is it because she's played by Cate Blanchett? Because I won't deny she's a great actress. But the character was still like every other MCU villain (besides a few which I'll go over in a moment).

You know who the best MCU villains are? The ones that actually deserve recognition (and I'll be honest. Most tend to get the recognition they deserve. Maybe not for the reasonings they deserve, but they do get them).

Side note, while technically antagonists of their movies, I do not consider either Bucky or Ava villains so they will not be considered for this list.

The best villains, in no particular order, are as followed:

Adrian Toomes AKA The Vulture  Spider-Man: Homecoming

Obadiah Stane AKA Iron Monger Iron Man

Erik Killmonger Black Panther

Loki Laufeyson Thor & The Avengers

Thanos Avengers: Infinity War

Darren Cross AKA Yellowjacket Ant-Man

These are the best villains. They all have solid back stories, solid motives, solid moments in their respective movies, and solid character arcs (specifically Loki as I'm pretty sure he's the only one who survives the final cut of his movies where he's the villain, although Darren Criss has been implied to still be alive so maybe he'll make a comeback).

Hela had none of them. And while not a forgettable villain (*cough* "villain" from Civil War who I can't even remember the name of *cough*) she's definitely not top tier like some people seem to think she is.

Female doesn't necessarily mean better.
