Okay, so I haven't personally been attacked by my opinion on Pepperony, but I've seen people on Tumblr being attacked for it and I just wanna stick up for us.

You are allowed to not like Pepperony but still respect the Hela out of both Pepper Potts and Tony Stark. Not liking a ship does not mean you don't like one or both characters.

So, I made a rant in my old random book saying why I don't like Pepperony. I have a few more things I need to add to that, because I made it out to be that it's all Pepper's fault that they don't work.

I still think it's partially her fault, but, let's face it, it takes two to fucking tango.

So, my argument still stands that she doesn't understand why Tony feels the need to do the things he does as Iron Man because she's incapable of understanding. Tony has a desire to atone for sins he feels he committed before finding out Obadiah was selling weapons under the table. Until he feels he's made up for all the destruction his weapons have created, he will continue being Iron Man. He is almost incapable of quitting being Iron Man. He has even been shown to break promises to stop being Iron Man when he feels the need to. It is honest-to-god, my opinion that he needs someone who understands his innate desire to be a hero. Pepper is simply not that person.

Now, let's look at the other side of that coin, eh? You want a fucking reasoning why Tony is not good for Pepper? Well, first, he can't even be bothered to remember her birthday. He has a fucking AI that he could program to let him know when it is Pepper's birthday and does he? Nah. Another thing? He forgets that she is allergic to strawberries. It is the only thing she is allergic to and he forgets it? Once again, dude you have an AI. Tell him to remind you of these things. She is supposed to be your girlfriend, these are things you should remember. Also, it's sort of a personal headcanon of mine that the only reason why they are engaged at the beginning of Infinity War is because Pepper felt forced to say yes to him. Remember, he literally fucking proposed to her in front of a bunch of reporters, and if there's one thing I really don't like it's huge public proposals unless the pair have explicitly agreed they want to get married one day. Would you want to be the person to deny someone a marriage proposal when faced with a lot of reporters? I didn't think so. (He's also been shown to be be slightly manipulative of her at points, and while this is totally in Tony's personality and it's because of his shitty past, it's still paints an extremely negative picture on this relationship).

So, yeah. There are definitely things for both of them as to why they are not a good couple. Neither of them are good for the other person, they have a really bad relationship, and if it was real, they may get married but that marriage wouldn't last long. Because they are not compatible. As friends? Yes. As life long partners? Fuck no.

So, I just want to say I ship Pepper with four different people. She's interacted with three of them on screen, and I'm assuming she's interacted with the fourth off screen. The four people I ship her with are: James "Rhodey" Rhodes, Harold "Happy" Hogan, Natasha Romanoff, and May Parker. She would literally work better with anyone of these four people insanely more than Tony, with maybe the exception of Rhodey (who like Tony, feels the desire to play hero, but more-so for the army instead of just the world in itself). Natasha could also fall into that category, but I still ship them. And her and May would just be super fucking adorable together because they could both worry about their two idiotic boys (Peter and Tony) who're out being heroes and saving the world.

And you already know I ship Starker to the moon and back. And guess what? They work together so much better than Pepperony when you think about it. All the small things about Peter, including his schedule, the extracurricular activities he takes (and when he quits said activities), even that he was once rewarded with a Churro by a lady? He remembers all of them. He pays attention to his needs, he made Peter a suit with a soft and caring AI because he knew Peter needed nourishment and not someone snarky like Friday or Jarvis. He put a training wheel protocol designed to literally keep Peter safe (and Tony did his research, there's no way he didn't know that Peter was best friends with a computer whiz like Ned who could easily deactivate the trainer wheel protocol). He's there for Peter virtually every time the kid gets into danger which shows that he has Friday tracking his vitals. He remembers about Peter's sensory issues, and he just pays so much more attention to Peter than he ever did to Pepper. And Peter? He understands Tony's desire to play hero. He doesn't want anyone to lose someone the way he lost his Uncle Ben, so he's out there stopping all the little crimes that the bigger superheroes don't bother with. He's out there being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man so that no one has to go through what he did.

So yeah, in summary. Pepperony is literally a bad fucking relationship on both sides of the coin and both Pepper and Tony have so much better options out there than each other.

(Oh and also, I love Pepper Potts to fucking death and I don't hate her and I don't have to hate her to dislike Pepperony).
