Goddamn. This movie? Fucking amazing.

It's like...such a good movie and I loved it so goddamn much that I really can't explain it.

Let's say it this way.

I got this movie Thursday.

I have seen it three times since and I want to watch it again. And again. And again.

That is how amazing the movie is.

So, it's a movie from 2005. It stars Robert Downey Jr,  Val Kilmer, and Michelle Monaghan. Just from the first actor there, you can probably guess why I love it? Well, it's because it's fucking amazing and just makes me laugh and keeps me on the edge of my seat and also. Robert Downey Jr.

So, it stars Harry Lockhart (RDJ) who was a small time crook who accidentally nails an audition for a role and is sent to LA to be screen tested for the role of a private detective. Perry van Shrike (Kilmer), aka Gay Perry, is an actual private investigator hired to give Harry 'detective lessons' so he can act better. The third member of their lil' trio is Harmony Faith Lane (Monaghan) who is actually childhood friends with Harry, who also ended up in LA as an aspiring actress.

The plot of the movie is that while having detective lessons, Harry and Perry stumble upon a murder and a dead body. When Harry gets back to his hotel, he discovers the dead body has been deposited in his shower, and he is being set up for the murder. Between him and Perry, they get rid of the body, but in the midst of it all, they end up getting tangled up in something much bigger and end up having to solve the case (with the help of Harmony who is so much more than just a pretty face in this movie I just don't want to explain how she ties into everything because it's sort of spoiler-y).

So, Harry is obviously my favorite character (duh). But I love him because he's a really great character. Like, there's this scene where he's promising to help Harmony with something (because she thinks he's an actual detective), and she passes out, and he's taking care of her. While he was clearly looking at her breasts earlier, when he's getting her into bed and is removing her soaking wet clothes for her, he looks away from her to not see her in just a bra. Then, he sees a spider climbing on her and he goes to kill it and it climbs under her bra, and hes trying to kill it and she wakes up and at first is mad at him for touching her, but then goes "Oh it's no biggie, happens all the time" (well that's the gist) and he's all "No biggie? No, it is a biggie. Someone touches your fucking tit and it's a fucking biggie" and it's just...it's great. There's another scene like it later where she basically just offers to have sex with him for the fun of it, and he tells her off again. Doesn't matter if he likes her, he doesn't want to just use her. Sure, he's not really smart or anything (god he's kind of an idiot) but he's still such a great character. Love him to absolute death.

Perry is another amazing character who is definitely my second favorite character. One thing I love about him is that he's a gay character in a 2005 movie, and he's so unstereoptypically gay that it's awesome. He's rough, tough, can fight pretty well, and he's just so fucking great. Like, he's a Private Investigator. Despite the nickname Gay Perry, being gay isn't the only defining trait he has either. Like I said, he's got this rough and tough exterior that makes you think he doesn't care about anything, but by the end of the movie, it's actually clear he cares about Harry and Harmony both, although you see a better example of him with Harry at the end of the movie than you do with Harmony. But I don't know. He's a great character and I love how he just...owns himself, for who he is. It's great.

Harmony is great and all, but I don't like her for a personal reasoning that I won't go into on here because it's really personal. It just deals with her past and how she handled something in it. However, I can honestly admit she's a pretty awesome character. Too many action films have females in them being just the pretty love interest, damseling her way into distress. Not Harmony. There are even a couple times that she is the one who saves both Perry and Harry. It's kind of clear at the beginning she doesn't think too much of herself, but she's not dumb, she's really smart, and I wished we got a much more solid story as to what happened to her in the end. We get closure with Harry and Perry, but she's not really mentioned at all. Still, good character, I just don't like her much.
