Trace and his sister along with Prince Asta and Princess Neol, were taken to a cave that the guards were posted to be look out on the border. Both were scared as they had no clue what would happen to them or what would happen to the prince. As they walked through the cold dark forest, Trace started to wonder if the glaceons were just like what the slyveons describe in their books, after how they had pushed the prince around several times. They certainly acted like they were cold on the inside by the way they treated Prince Asta, not being gentle with him at all with how they pushed him around and laughed whenever he fell into the snow. Princess Neol on the other hand was treated like a she was a very important prisoner. Which being the princess she was more than likely going to be punished by a royal family member instead of guards who watch the border.
All four prisoners were kept in the same holding cell, with several guards watching them and the rest going outside to look for the glaceon prince's group to arrive.
As they sat there for several minutes, Trace couldn't help but think of how his mother would react to how he and his sister ran off into danger like this. He shuddered at the thought of her angry face. He noticed several glaceons smile and whisper to each other before calling out to him.
"Aww is the little lord cold? Too bad this is actually one of the warmest places here." Said a guard and the others laughed.
How they found something so simple funny Trace wasn't so sure, but than again he wasn't a glaceon whose only entertainment is watching snowflakes fall. Boring!
Several hours went by and the prisoners heard foot steps coming down the tunnel leading to the holding cell. The glaceon guards got up and stood at attention as a male glaceon walked into the room. He held his head high with silver and gold around his legs and a red cape coving his back.
He looked at the prisoners thoughtfully before his gaze went upon Princess Neol. She shuddered as their eyes locked and looked away from the new glaceon.
This must be the prince, thought Trace.
The glaceon held his head high and proud. He looked around at the other three stopping for a moment longer on Tara making eye contact with her.
He went back to Neol and finally spoke.
"I see you made some friends from outside out territory. Tell me sister, are your own kind not good enough?" He said, his voice full of command.
"Brother, I have to confess to you now, I love Prince Asta. I have to be with him." Said Neol.
"Why must you go against our family and your own people?" Said The prince.
"I didn't want to. I thought maybe we could have peace if I was to be with the slyveon prince." She said.
The room got quiet again as the prince stared at Neol, their eyes locked together.
Trace thought he could feel the room get colder with each passing second and started shivering more.
The prince sat down infront of Neol closing his eyes and seemed to meditate for a minute.
"You dare think we can have peace with the slyveons after what they did to our land and our family? And yet you still think we can just forget that! Do you know that this is betraying your own kingdom? That is punishable by death and I don't want to see you die. We have too few family members left to carry on our name." Said the prince in a tone that was half commanding half heart broken.
Trace notice Asta flinch at what the prince said, making him more curious as to what happened between the two kingdoms.
Neol looked at her brother and tried to speak but couldn't form any words as her eyes began to swell with tears. As they slid down her cheek, they froze half way down staining her face. Her brother pulled her closer and hugged her so she could cry on his shoulder.
"I won't let anything happen to you. Just please, say you don't love the slyveon prince." He said and turned to Prince Asta.
Neol stiffened in her brother's embrace and backed away, the pain relevant in her eyes.
"I... I can't... I just..." She said and backed away from her brother who rose up and seemed ready to hit her until he was interrupted.
"What happened between the two kingdoms?" Ask Trace, his curiousity overcoming common sense to keep quiet.
The glaceons all stared at him for a long silent moment. Asta looked at him out of the corner of his eye, while his sister froze in place hoping the glaceons didn't get mad at her brother.
The glaceon prince stepped toward Trace, his head held high to tower over the eevee.
"It is none of your concern. Now keep quiet in the presence of your superiors, or did your parents teach you bad manners?" Said the prince.
"My parents taught me many things, some of which were manners. You keep mentioning something bad, and I want to help." Said Trace.
"You can't prevent the things that will be happening soon. War will come and no force can stop it." The prince said sounding more annoyed.
"Please there has to be a way for peace to overcome war." Trace spoke up again.
The prince growled some and bared his teeth as Trace.
"Trace, shut up! You aren't helping anything." said Tara coming close to her brother.
Trace looked at Tara his ears lowered.
"I want to help. I don't want there to be a war." He said and looked up at the prince again hoping a answer would come.
The prince glared for a moment at Trace, almost as if he were a frozen statue.
"You say you want to help now, but let's see if you want to help when I tell you what you don't know. It started over a peace of land that was valuable to my people several years ago. We used it to make food for our survival. It was a beautiful land scape with trees and flowers that could withstand the cold. One day the slyveons came and demanded we give the land over to them, or there would be consequences. We refused and asked for peace instead, but all we got was our land being destroyed and taken from us. My grandfather, who was king at the time, as well as my uncle and aunt died fighting in battle all because of the greed the slyveons possessed. Now my family has grown small and already decreasing number in the royal family. We can not forgive the slyveons who still occupy that land they stole and have built on it there malls and amusement parks. You think you can prevent war? Give us back our land little eevee." The prince said the whole time never breaking eye contact with Trace. Trace could see the pain was in his eyes and he swore he could see tears, but wasn't sure.
"My prince, I want to help anyway I can. That way things will become right once again." Trace said and bowed to the prince burying his face in the snow and heard foot steps come up beside him. When he looked over, he saw Tara doing the same thing.
"My prince, please let me bring my parents into this. If anyone can help it is them, their names are Jayce and Coral and are ambassadors to the vaporoen and jolteon kingdoms." Said Tara in a calm voice.
The room was full of murmurs from other glaceons as they heard the two names mentioned. The prince held up one of his paws for silence and sat there looking at the two eevees.
Trace and Tara waited until the glaceon prince answered or left before looking back up. After a minute the prince put a paw on Trace's shoulder.
"Stand up son and daughter of Jayce and Coral, for I want you to meet my father and tell him this. He won't be easy to convince, but only he can grant you his blessing to bring your family into this." The prince said as he let the two eevees stand up. "You all will accompany me to the palace, and I do mean all of you."
The prince looked at Prince Asta who looked back and tried to act like he wasn't scared.
"My prince, is it wise to allow our enemy to come with us? And the eevees, what if they are siding with the slyveons and this is just a way to find the castle?" Said a glaceon wearing a pair of glasses. They looked foggy from the outside or so Trace could see.
"We will blindfold the prince and the eevees. Besides the winds and snow may damage their delicate eyes." Said the prince. "Also for you two eevees, you may call me Prince Hailstorm, the first in line to the throne of tye glaceon kingdom. You my lady will be following me."
He pointed at Tara who looked up in fear and nervousness as she glanced at her brother for a moment before bowing.
"As your grace wishes." She said and went to his side.
All those except Princess Neol were blindfolded and ropes were attached to their waists as they were lead blindly through the cold weather of the glaceon territory to the castle.
Trace knew this wasn't going to be easy blindfolded and keep slipping in the snow and on the ice. The long journey took hours on foot, and physically and mentally wore out those who weren't ice types. As soon as the arrived at the castle the blindfolds came off and Trace was met with a beautiful sight.
The castle for the glaceon kingdom was tall and wide. It was completely made out of blue ice and with the night sky reflected the stars and the moon.
Trace just realized that they had been in the glaceons possession for a whole day. Immediately he thought to what his parents and family must be doing right now and even wondered how the slyveons were reacting to their prince missing. His thoughts were broken when a glaceon pushed Trace forward.
"Go on you little runt. We have to arrive and show you to the king. He will be so happy to know we now have leverage in this dispute." Said the glaceon as she pushed Trace again.
He started walking down to the castle and looked around at the area. There were pine trees as tall as any he had ever seen before here and the snow was falling slowly making it easier to see everything.
The glaceon territory was unique as the people who lived and worked in the village the party passed through stopped and stared while others booed and hissed at the slyveon prince. A large crowd gathered behind the group which made Trace nervous and wondered if there would be an attack.
After several minutes of waking they arrived at the castles gates. The two large wooden doors slowly began to open making their creaking noises as they did.
After the party was all inside the doors closed again and slammed shut behind them causing the blue ice chandeliers above to shake. Trace noticed they gave off a light inside them and wondered how the glaceons could do it without the advanced technology of the jolteons. Something to ask for later.
They were lead down a long hallway which show paintings all the way down of different royal family members, as was expected for any royal family would want their portrait on the wall for as long as time.
When they reached near the middle of the hall, they were facing a large white door with ice crystals and symbols of glaceon warriors carved into the white wood. As Trace finally looked at each detail he watched as the prince knocked on the door and used a phrase he didn't understand. After the prince was done the doors opened and revealed a large throne room leading to a set of thrones with sitting in either side of the large room for other important figures. It seemed like the room was empty besides a few glaceons and a few on the thrones.
The prince started towards the throne and so did a few of the glaceons who lead the captives inside. The others remained outside waiting for orders.
As the smaller party came before the thrones all the glaceons bowed to the two sitting in their respected seats. Trace and Tara also bowed out of respect for the king and queen as well.
As they slowly raised their heads, Trace noticed there were very few royal family members in the room. About a total of thirteen if you counted the prince and princess. Was the war really taking a toll on the glaceons?
The king stood up and made his way down the frozen steps to get in front of the prince.
"Prince Hailstorm, what have you brought to me?" Asked the king.
"Father I have brought back Princess Neol along with three captives, the slyveon Prince Asta, and the son and daughter of ambassadors Coral and Jayce." Said Prince Hailstorm.
The king eyed Asta with a hateful look that sent chills down Trace's spin. When he turned his attention to the eevees, his face changed but only a little.
"Daughter and son of those two? Interesting. Have you made sure they were blindfolded the whole time?" The king asked.
"Yes father, I took all the necessary precautions. I promise you they don't know the way here, even if they weren't blindfolded not many Pokemon can get through the snow wind and ice." Said Prince Hailstorm.
The king seemed pleased and went back to his throne.
"Son, take the two eevees to a room so they may freshen up a bit and make sure they are guarded well. We don't want them to get lost in the icy cold tundra out there. As for our slyveon guest, he may be taken to a cell where he will be kept until we are ready to have negotiations with his family." Said the king with a pleased look upon his face that still didn't seem very happy.
"Yes my king. I shall do as you say." Said Prince Hailstorm who got up and turned to leave.
As they left the throne room, Trace looked back one more time and caught the eye of the king for a second before being pushed out the door.
Down the hall the glaceons separated Princess Neol to a different room, took Prince Asta away down a darker hallway, and Trace and Tara were lead to quarters that seemed rather like a guest room meant for a small group of guests.
The two were left alone to do as they pleased for a few hours which made Trace kinda happy and gave him time to think about what you do about this predicament.
"We really did it now. Mom and dad will never let us live this moment down. I am sorry I got us into this mess." Said Tara looking out a window at the snow covered land outside.
"I always imagine the glaceons would be more majestic and good. I guess I was wrong." Said Trace.
"Yes you are wrong. Because the slyveons did this to them! I knew those slyveons were up to no good!" Said Tara angrily.
"We only have one side of the story though. We can't assume the slyveons are evil." Said Trace.
"Trace, you were there in the kingdom. You saw what they were all like." Said Tara.
"I saw what they were like and they weren't my favorite Pokemon to be around, but I can say that other kingdoms are just like them such as the Vaporeon and their beach life styles." Said Trace a bit angrily.
Before they could continue their argument they heard a knock at the door and turned to see who was entering. To their surprise it was the king, Prince Hailstorm and Princess Neol along with a few other royal members behind them. The two eevees bowed to the royal family as the king sat down in front of them.
"So you two will be coming in handy for me, almost more than the slyveon prince who I will promise to let go if his family gives me back my land. As for you two, you both will play ambassador for me in the meeting we will have with the slyveons in two days time." Said the king. "Before I forget to introduce myself, I am King Zerro. You may both rise. I apologize for I have not had any outsiders come to me at all. Not even your parents."
Trace and Tara both rose from their bowing position and looked up at him. Trace could tell that this family was very unfamiliar with the outside customs.
"Your majesty, I will do what I can to help you in your situation. That land is rightfully yours and the slyveons do not deserve a yard of it." Said Tara.
The glaceons all looked at her, some having approving looks while others skeptical of her. Trace though knew what she was trying to do and wasn't going to let her make his decisions.
"Until I know the other side of the story, I can not take anyone's side. I do want to avoid war as best as possible, but I must hear what the slyveons have to say." Trace said.
"Trace, are you stupid?" Yelled Tara at her brother.
Trace looked at her twitching his tail and ears.
"You know what I like to do Tara. I will not take one side without knowing both sides stories. I have to know all the details, and it all starts with Prince Asta." He said and turned to the king. "I mean no disrespect and believe your story, but I must know exactly why the slyveons took the land and see it myself, otherwise I can't help you. I refuse to be caught off guard especially with my mother and father being there who might have information I don't know about."
The king closed his eyes for a moment as two guards began to move up as if ready to attack Trace and where stopped by Prince Hailstorm, holding up his paw to stop the advancement. The king opened his eyes and locked his with Trace's.
"Okay my little friend. Please let us go and see Prince Asta so he may confirm what I have told you. Follow me." Said the king who stood up and began to leave.
Trace felt his heart pumping fast as he realized that the glaceons could see him as a potential enemy as he walked past them with Tara next to him. All of them going to see if Prince Asta would tell anything that would change the story of the glaceons.
