As Trace walked with the king, a small group of glaceons and his sister, he worried if what he was doing was right. Would it be wrong to just assume one side of the story was right without hearing the other?
When they went down a flight of stairs which were almost as cold to walk on as the snow outside, they came to a few holding cells. Trace noticed some had prisoners inside them. Mostly all glaceons and the one slyveon they had come to see.
When they reach the cell with prince Asta inside, they all looked in to see the young prince shivering a bit violently.
The glaceon guards opened the cell door after given a nod by the king. Trace went inside and walked up to the half frozen slyveon along with a royal glaceon servant who put a blanket over the slyveon's shoulder. Though the glaceon looked disgusted at Prince Asta the whole time he was close.
Prince Asta rubbed his cold fur with the blanket trying to warm up.
"Prince Asta, this may not be the best time for you, but I must know about the slyveon side of the story in this. The glaceons claim that the slyveons came and took land that belonged to them. Is this true and if so why did the slyveons do this?" Asked Trace.
"Well, t-t-to be honest I h-have no i-idea. I h-h-heard stories of what happened." After a few moments the prince continued when he was warmer. "The slyveon prince at the time, was supposed to be engaged to a glaceon princess. The glaceons however decided they didn't want to go through with it and after that the prince suddenly disappeared in the territory the glaceons once had."
"The slyveons say we kidnapped the prince, but we didn't!" Yelled the king from behind the bars.
Trace looked at both the king and prince Asta, who looked at the king for a moment knowing he had to be careful with what he said.
"The slyveons were suspicious. The glaceons wouldn't let the royal family come to the territory to see for ourselves, so my ancestors decided it be best to conquer a certain part of their territory until the prince was safe and sound. Unfortunately the prince never came back and the body was never found. For centuries the glaceons and slyveons had been in a constant war over a part of land." Said Prince Asta who sighed.
"He forgot to mention the slyveons were building on our land!" Yelled Prince Hailstorm. "They already started construction on a second mall calling it snowland!"
The prince sighed and looked down at the floor.
"I see. So the slyveons blame the glaceons for kidnapping a royal family member, and the glaceons lose a piece of their territory for something they may or may not have done." said Trace.
"Yes, but the prince had no reason to run away to my knowledge. You'd know more at the slyveon library if you desired to know more " said prince Asta who laid down again wrapping himself up tight.
Trace walked out of the cell and looked at the ground as if a answer would pop out of it any second. After a moment the king stepped fourth.
"So do you see we were telling the truth?" Asked the king who gave a bit of a smug look at the captive prince.
"Your majesty, I am not saying you were lying, but I must know more. What happened to the prince? Perhaps if I find out the slyveons will for once agree to peace." Said Trace in a bit of a hurry.
The king sat down to think as he stared at the ceiling for a moment. When he looked back at Trace, he didn't have a reassuring scowl.
"Absolutely not. You are my special guests and I can't have you running off or this slyveon freezing to death. Someone get him some warm blankets." Shouted the king and two servants ran off quickly to get some blankets. "As for you and your sister though, you shall remain here and not leave unless your parents and the slyveons plan to give the glaceons what is rightfully ours."
The small crowd cheered in agreement along with the guards and inmates. Trace glared at the king, anger boiling inside him.
Tara looked at Trace and shook her head some, knowing he hated being limited to answers he knew he could find. Though Trace knew he shouldn't, it was too late to stop what he was about to say.
"Than I challenge one of your glaceons to a fight. If I win I get to leave for the slyveon kingdom and gain the knowledge I seek." He said glaring at the king.
The king looked at him for a moment and began to laugh along with some of the glaceons.
"How do you plan on beating any of my glaceon warriors? You are just a eevee, and though you may be strong, you are no where close to the level of my glaceons. Even my weakest warrior can beat you." The king said smirking as he looked at Trace. "Why don't you just settle down here and wait for your parents to make the right decision."
"Because I am not a patient enough and I am confident I can win" Trace said.
Tara moved up to her brother slowly pushing him back some.
"Trace don't make a decision you will regret. You could get badly hurt and that would make mom and dad angry. Do you want that? Because it could cause more issues for them and the glaceons. You also said you couldn't find anything on the glaceons in the glaceon territory Tara said with some fear in her eyes.
Trace couldn't tell if it was fear for her brother, or the fear of the glaceons disliking her for not standing up for them.
"I must do this. I have to know more because I feel like there is something we are all missing. Maybe a few things." Trace said and tried going past his sister who blocked his way again.
" Than you will have to battle me to get to them first, because I won't just let you cause trouble for yourself." Tara said.
"Are you crazy? This is my fight I'll choose who I want to battle." Trace said.
"To protect you and make sure we don't upset the glaceons Trace, You stupid fool!" Yelled Tara.
Before Trace could reply back Hailstorm got in between them.
"Enough! Trace there is no chance of you fighting any of the glaceons today. And maybe you should listen to your sister at times because she is right, you getting into a fight and getting injured could harm the chances for peace." He said and turned to Tara who appeared to blush a little.
The king walked up to the three of them and waited a moment before speaking eyeing Tara some as if she were a different eevee than one who walked in here.
"We may have other ways of you finding things out Trace. Tell me, what difference can you make in this?" Asked the king.
"I just want to help do my best even if it means going out to this territory and looking around myself." Said Trace.
"Unfortunately for you, you can't and I won't let you. I will go through with my plan and that's final. No eevee, glaceon or slyveon will change what I have in mind." Said the king. "Now let us be off, I am tired of being down here."
He turned around and started going back up the stairs followed by the guards and royal family that came down with him. Trace and Tara were herded back upstairs by a few guards and Prince Hailstorm keeping close to Tara.
Trace looked back at Prince Asta one last time and saw Princess Neol wait a moment longer before following. Maybe she could help me. Trace thought while he continued walking. Once they got down a long hall the royal family separated from them and walked to their quarters, while Trace and Tara were taken to the guests rooms which were upstairs.
Once they arrived they were pushed through the open doors and were locked into them as well. There was little light on the room and one open window, as Trace went to it, he realized there was now way to escape that way, even if he did jump and not get injured from the fall, the bushes and trees were enough to get him tangled up for awhile. When he was done looking he turned around and looked at the bed. Tara was on it watching him closely.
"Go ahead Trace, do something stupid. It won't end well for you. At least right now we are being treated like honored guests." She said as if reading his mind.
Trace only shook his head and went and sat on the bed with her.
"More like honored prisoners. The door is locked and we can't go anywhere. I bet there are two guards outside the door too." He said looking at the door.
"For our safety and to prevent you from being stupid. Maybe if you hadn't blurted out you want to learn what's going on, we wouldn't have to be locked up." Tara said growing angry and decided to lay down with her back to Trace.
Trace stayed still for awhile watching his sister for a moment before laying down as well, his back to his sister.
For the first time ever, Trace felt like he and Tara would no longer be close anymore. She was one of his best friends and now it was like they were slowly becoming worst enemies over something they had nothing to do with until they decided to get involved.
Trace looked up at the ceiling and watched the last light of day dance around from the icicles hanging from the top of the window. He wonder what his parents were thinking or feeling right now? How would they feel once they found out they were captives in a territory they should never have gone to.
As he slowly began to doze off he thought he saw Prince Hailstorm walk into the room, but was asleep before he could find out.
As he slept, his dreams were not the normal ones he would have of him and his happy family. This time was very different. In fact it was dark all around him. As he looked around he saw some lights off in the distance, he began to run to them. When he made it to the lights he saw that it was a window and looked inside. He saw his family sitting in the living room of his house. All of them. Why were they all in the living room?
Suddenly he fell through the window and onto the floor. As he looked up he saw angry glares on their faces and all directed at him. Why were they looking so mad? Is it because of what I did in the glaceon territory?
He felt that wasn't it and slowly began to back away until he fell through the floor into a dark abyss. Once he landed on the ground he looked up and saw the moon, it was a crescent moon and he thought all the light coming off of it was directed at him.
"Don't be afraid little one. I am here. You must follow the path you are destined for." Said the moon.
"Who are you?" Asked Trace a bit afraid.
Before he could get a answer he awoke facing the window with the crescent moon positioned in the sky as if it was looking in at him.
Trace didn't move except his sides as he kept his breathing at a easy rythem. While he laid there having a staring contest with the moon, he heard low voices inside the room. He wasn't sure if he should look up or say anything, instead slowly turned over in the bed with his eyes closed so he would be facing the same way Tara was facing.
He waited for a few seconds for the voices to continue talking before he slowly opened his eyes. He nearly jumped when he saw that Tara was no longer in the bed and started to scan the room carefully to see if he could see anyone.
Luckily the moon was shining brightly enough that he saw to figures in the dark. One tall with ribbons hanging from their head, a glaceon. And the other a smaller form, most likely eevee. Of course it was and the longer he stared, he began to see that it was Tara talking to a random glaceon. But who?
He tried to listen in on the conversation but couldn't hear anything. This frustrated him even more! Why was Tara talking to a glaceon? What were they talking about? Why were they talking? This is so frustrated.
Several long minutes passed and he decided to close his eyes as the two stopped talking and walked out of the shadows. When he saw the glaceon before closing his eyes, he saw Prince Hailstorm. What was going on?
He felt the bed give in some on the other side in front of him. He felt he eyes of both staring at him before Tara spoke.
"He won't be a problem to you or the others." She said.
"Your brother seems stubborn. Are you sure he won't try to stop this?" Said Hailstorm.
"No he won't. If he knows what's good for him. Because I'll stop him before he can start a fight with you or anyone else." Said Tara.
With that it got quiet again. He heard the rustling of the blankets as Tara laid down and what sounded like quiet moans. When he slowly opened his eyes both Tara and Hailstorm were nuzzling. Okay what is really going on here?
He closed his eyes quickly as he saw them separate and heard footsteps as the prince left the room opening and closing the door behind him. Tara had now laid her head in the pillow and after a moment started to breath low again as she had fallen asleep.
Trace opened his eyes again and looked at the back of his sister's head, curiousity gripping his very soul to ask all the questions. He knew he wouldn't. He couldn't sleep the rest of that night with fear of those dreams and his sister keeping him up until the sun rose. The start of a new day had begun and so many things were about to change for Trace once again.
