Trace was awake early in the afternoon a bit tired from his over sleeping. When he got out of his room and into the hall way, he looked in both directions wondering he saw his two servants walking his way with baskets in their mouths. When they got to him they bowed and showed him the fruits they had for him along with something that resembled bread.
"What is that?" Asked Trace.
"We call racush, but you may recognize it as bread. We make it with water, a kind of cream we make from snow, some grains that grow only in the glaceon territory and some sugar. We put these ingredients together and stir them together until the racush grows into a it's form nice and fluffy without baking it, we can also shape it how we want." Said Carta.
"Oh I am guessing this is breakfast than?" Asked Trace.
"Of course young lord. May we join you in your room? Eating in the hall way isn't very pleasant for our ambassador." Said Howken.
"Oh of course! I apologize." Said Trace while moved to allow the two servants to walk in with their food baskets.
As they began setting up at the table, Howken began crushing some of the berries on a plate with a rock. Carta was busy cutting open the bread before she put some of the crushed berries onto a slice. Trace watched as the two worked with what they had separating the delicious looking good before giving him a plate.
They sat there in silence while Trace examined the piece of racush he had and slowly took a bite from it. He chewed it slowly before swallowing, the different flavors that he tasted where absolutely amazing and he started eating the whole thing infront of him quickly.
Once he was finished he looked up at the shocked faces of Carta and Howken. He blushed with embarrassment as he wiped his face and cleared his throat.
"Excuse my bad manners, it's been awhile since I had to behave while I ate." He said still feeling embarrassed.
Before anything else could be said Carta started giggling, but tried to hide it behind her paw. Howken also began chuckling as he listened to Carta who was now laughing uncontrollably.
Trace looked at both of them and also started to share in their laughter. All three seemed to enjoy each other's company at that moment and it wasn't as serious between them as their first meeting was.
Once the laughter started to die down, Carta wiped her eyes with the back of her paw and gave Trace a smile that he thought was very pretty on her.
"Trace, it is good to just sit down and enjoy your company. We are normally meant to be servants who don't interact with those we serve. You however, are different." Said Carta.
"Different? How?" Trace asked.
"You give off a reassuring presence about you that at times things feel like they will be okay. That is why the King has put you in a tough situation, because he feels that if he trusts in you everything will turn out for the better." Said Howken who was also smiling.
Trace looked down at his plate and started to let their words sink in. How can anyone feel like everything will turn out good with him? He wasn't sure what others saw in him, but most of those he talked to the past day seem a bit reassured. Perhaps Trace could pull this off. He looked back up at them and gave them both a smile and a nod.
"I'm glad you all think this. I hope I do not mess up this chance to ensure the safety of every glaceon. So is there anymore of that racush stuff?" Said Trace.
Carta and Howken seemed all too willing to make sure Trace was well fed that morning. Once he was finished they began cleaning up putting anything dirty inside the basket.
"Ah that was good!" Said Trace as he put a paw on his stomach.
Carta gave off a soft giggle as she started to head towards the door.
"If you ever need us young lord, we are at your service." Said Howken who bowed before following Carta closely.
"Oh, okay. I'll see you two later than." Said Trace as he watched them leave. Once they left he felt lonely without the company of others around. He was half tempted to follow the two servants, but he knew he couldn't keep them from their other duties.
The day slowly dragged by as Trace sat in his room for the next several hours, letting his mind wonder about how he was going to handle making the slyveons and the alliance hold off their attacks. Was he even capable of preventing war?
His doubt started to creep back into his mind making it hard for him to think about any positive outcome. All accept one. Was he able to convince his parents and family to make the alliance prevent the slyveons from attacking? Would his parents even be there? It was cold enough for him at the glaceon territory, but he had thick enough fur to last through such a harsh environment for a few hours.
His mother on the other paw was a water type and everyone knew water types disliked the cold.
Would his father march with the sylveons into battle? Would any of his family even be there to talk with him about peace? What if the alliance didn't sent any ambassadors?
Trace knew several of the high ranking officials and royal family members in the eevee, jolteon, and flareon kingdoms. There were some who would be willing to listen, while others wouldn't let the words of a young eevee bother them.
"Darn it! Everything is uncertain! How can I even prevent war if I may run into immovable eeveelutions?" Trace said a bit loudly while hitting his paw against the table.
"Perhaps you should come up with a way soon Trace."
The voice belonged to his sister Tara. Trace swirled around and looked at her in surprise as he didn't expect any company. Behind her were six guards all in ice armor. They looked ready for a fight.
"Your majesty." Trace said but felt weird calling his older sister that since it was literally yesterday he was calling her by her name.
"No time for formalities Trace, we have to move. Some scouts that were near the edge of the territory sent word that the sylveons are about to march into our territory. We are heading out to meet them and hope they bring some ambassadors. Hopefully we can have a peace talk before any bloodshed happens." Said Tara who immediately turned around and started walking out the door.
Trace quickly followed her and was followed up by the guards.
Tara took Trace to the large grant hall of the throne room and there were several glaceons all in some kind of armor and seemed battle ready. Most of the royal family were there and also seemed prepared for battle.
"Father, you shouldn't come. You and mother need to stay here in case something happens." Said King Hailstorm.
"I'm not letting my glaceons do battle without me. I shall go into this knowing it will be my last battle, win or lose." Said Zerro.
"I can't just let you fight such amounting odds. There will be no one left to rule and lead the glaceons. Please stay here." Said King Hailstorm pleadingly.
Zerro shook his head and glared at his son not seeming to budge at all. King Hailstorm sighed and looked down before giving into the stubbornness of the past king.
King Hailstorm nodded his head and turned to Tara and Trace, giving them both a small smile.
"Trace, so glad you are here. Because the time has come for you to be ready to do your part." Said King Hailstorm.
"But he won't be doing it alone." Said Prince Asta walking up with Princess Noel beside him. He looked much better as if the glaceons gave him some kind of magical pill that turned him back to his original self before he was imprisoned.
"Prince Asta, please explain yourself." Said King Hailstorm.
"It is my duty to also be there beside Trace and lend him my aid. The sylveons may not listen to him and what he has to say without me there." Said Prince Asta.
"Sounds like a good idea. I just wasn't sure if you were going or not since Noel would be worried sick about you." Said King Hailstorm giving his sister a small tease.
"That's funny my king, because I just so happened to convince Prince Asta that I was going with him and Trace." Said Princess Noel.
"No I strictly forbid that!" Said Lord Zerro.
"It's not up for discussion now." Said Princess Noel.
"Not if the king forbids it." Said Lord Zerro looking at King Hailstorm.
The room got silent for a minute the tension could be felt between the glaceons and each other's individual decisions. King Hailstorm looked at his future queen and smiled before looking at Princess Noel.
"I believe it will be good for Princess Noel to support Prince Asta and ambassador Trace. Are you three ready?" King Hailstorm made eye contact with each one he was sending to negotiate.
"I am ready." Said Prince Asta.
"Together we will succeed." Said Princess Noel.
They all turned to Trace every eye on him.
"Ambassador Trace, are you ready to go?" Ask King Hailstorm.
Trace looked back into the king's eyes, turning to look into his sister's eyes. Both had hope hiding their fear of what could go wrong. He turned back to King Hailstorm and took a deep breath.
"I'm ready as I'll ever be King Hailstorm." Said Trace.
Once he answered the king stepped forward and took a sash made from white and gold silk. King Hailstorm put it around Trace's shoulder and through his front legs and connected it just behind the back of his neck. It felt tight, but comfortable to wear and was very beautiful. Trace looked up at the king in surprise as he was speechless.
"Wear this with pride Trace, as it represents the glaceons and our hope for a bright future." Said King Hailstorm who started to walk towards the large doors of the great hall. "Let us go and face our destiny today."
With that command all those in the throne room began falling the glaceon king. They marched out of the castle and across the bridge towards the town infront of the castle. As they continued their march through the town more glaceons began to follow the already large army that was behind Trace who looked back and saw how many glaceons were following their king into battle. At least a few thousand seemed to be leaving the village and into a unknown situation, either peace or war awaited the glaceons.
Trace again felt the weight of all the glaceons on his small shoulders as the sash around him continued to tighten around him. He looked at it again and hoped he could say the right words to bring peace.
