I'm doing homework one night when my mom comes in holding a letter and crying.

"OMG mom, are you okay?!" I ask.

"You got the letter, I'm sorry sweet, but you've been chosen."

I drop my pencil down onto my notebook and stand up. It might have been shock, but once I stood up, I felt a little woozy and I stumble backwards a bit. My mother reaches out to catch me, but I swat her hand away.

"Let me see it mother." I say as I try to stay calm.

I grab the letter and read it. Yep, I've been chosen. I can't believe this. This can't be true. I reread it twice to make sure, but it's true. I sit down on my bed.

"This is okay," I say "I can fix this."

"No sweet, you can't. I'm afraid you're chosen and theres nothing we can do about it." she says as she bursts into tears.

"I'll figure this out mom. I can figure this out." I say in a tone that says that I don't want to talk anymore.

About an hour later, my older brother, Liam comes into my room.

"Hey." he says

"Hi."

"Look, I know mom's upset and your scared, but we can't just ignore this. You were chosen and you have to go. I wish there was something we could do, but there isn't, Foster. I love you."

"I love you too, Liam" I say as I collapse into his arms.

We cry for a while in a huddle on the floor.

"We have to be strong. Come on, I'll help you pack."

I never realized how attractive my brother was until now. With his sun-tanned skin and hazel eyes. His hair used to be shaggy brown, but now it's curly dirty-blond due to all of the hours working in our work field. We're not rich, we're kinda poor, but we get along fine, which is good for living in Brollan, the kingdom of rich, snotty, and mean people. Brollan is not a very good place to live, but we make it work. You start schooling at age 5 and finish at around 15 after you finish year 10 in school. After schooling, you go straight into your family's work job. Ours is inside and outside house care. I'd be leaving school in the spring, but I guess I won't be finishing school. When Liam left school, he went into the Royals War Guard and zoomed up the ranks. Yes, at 15, he was a general. And when I'm 15, I'll be in the chosen, quite a difference. Liam left after watching our father die from a bomb. He's now 18. Liam and I are only 3 years apart, and super close. When he was in the Royals War Guard, I would write to him everyday. Then there's our little sister, Kalela, who's only 9. She doesn't really understand what's going on around her, which I'm glad, because I don't want to tell her that she wont be seeing me again. I have to be strong for both her and mom. I know how upset mom was when we lost dad. I won't do that for her.

It only took us about five minutes to packI only really need to pack a picture of my father, Kalela's favorite button that she gave me, a letter my mom wrote to me right after dad died to show me that she loved me, and something from Liam, which I don't have.

"I have something for you to remember me by" Liam says, as if reading my mind.

He pulls out a small silver box from his jeans pocket.

"Here." He says.

I pull off the top and inside is a piece of string, a gold-plated plain ring, and a blue rope bracelet.

"OMG Liam, I love these!"

"I'm glad." he replies " The string is to put Kalela's button on, the ring is from dad. He gave it to me to give it to you when you started working, and the bracelet is from me."

He wipes a tear from his eye and then adds, "Oh, come here." And pulls me in for a hug.

"I'm not leaving. I'm going to stay here until they take me away."

"Don't do that. It will only make it worse." Liam yells at me.

"It'll be fine" I reply.

~

I shudder awake from a crazy dream. As I open my eyes, I see two dark figures standing above me. I don't need to scream, I know why they're here. Liam was right. I was foolish to think that they'd not come get me. I relax my muscles as they grab me with their big, cold hands.

"Wait," I said " At least let me say goodbye to my brother."

"Okay" they say.

I walk down the the short hallway and open the door to Liam's room. Not very surprisingly, he's already awake and standing up by the door. And he know's why I'm here. Tears well up in my eyes as I walk up to him and pull him into a hug.

"Goodbye," I whisper "I love you."

"Love you too," he replies " Don't forget about me."

He pulls me into another hug and I slip something into his hand, a silver earing.

"Remember me." I whisper, heading towards the door " Tell Kalela and mom I love them."

I blow a kiss as I shut the door. I let the men lead me towards their van and chain me up in the backseat. As the truck starts moving, I watch as my house fades into the city background and into the sunrise.

Hey guys! How do you like the story. I know at the moment, it's a little confusing, but that's just to make it a little mysterious. What do you think that the Chosen is? I'm curious to know! Love ya! Byeeeee
